Hey guys it's time to start my very first monthly build and I picked a doozy.
R2D2 is iconic within the world of Star Wars, the stout little droid always seems to have the best quip or whistle and of course has been at nearly every major event in the history of the franchise. Thanks to a friend from work I'm going to get a chance to build R2 in 1/2 . . ish scale (I did the math, he's just a hair . . 5 inches to short)
Now someone of my means was never going to be able to build a full size R2 so this will fill in nicely and as a bonus I can introduce him to my new Niece and he'll be just about her size.
So on to our first box
I was very surprised at the speed in which I got my first box, ordered on Thursday, Shipped on Tuesday, received on Wednesday. Everything was well pack and my new poster, showing off the builds details, was placed on top.
Soon we had out our parts, with Issues 1 and 2 being in blister packs and everything else in bag
And our first 4 issues. Each had detailed information about the creation of R2, the actors that brought him to life and info about tech as well that goes into our R2. I'm sure my little niece will find this fascinating when she's older.
The end of issue 4 and we have several parts of R2's dome and inner electonics, and a large portion of his right leg. This is a great place to start and lets one see some of the scale of R2 and get an idea of his weight. It's going to be a long wait to next month where we get some more light up displays and start working on the inner dome but I think it will be worth it.
For this first 4 issues there where no left over screws and everything fit together snugly and precisely. Take some time and care and you should have a fantastic Astromech in no time . . .welll 2 years time.
Finally I put together a video which I think I'll keep up with each month. I'm going to be trying somethings in the next few videos to make it more watchable and enjoyable for the view but I would love to get feedback and to know if its something people would actually want to see. I have a very small Youtube channel and would love to see it grow, even a little.
