Confused Hi all I have just started rigging the cannons on the main deck as once the cross deck goes on it would be a right faff to do it afterwards. I have rigged the out haul tackle but I don't know if these smaller guns had in haul tackle or they where dragged backwards by hand like the Vasa . Can't seem to find any reference for them Confused

Cheers for any help Martyn

They seem to be phantasy cannons. I have not been able to verify existence of the smaller cannon type. Their barrels look more like Morterettes, Bombardes or Verso, all of which would be 16th century cannons with half open breeches and would be swivel mounted, and well.... Spanish or Italian, not French. The barrel and breech design don't make sense for a carriage based cannon, i'm not sure how the design would have could have been actually sensibly used in battle. In any case, I can not find a direct historical counterpart even after months of search.

There are no plans that exist to recreate the Soleil model on display at the Paris museum, even the Sergal plans do not follow this.

The Soleil "Paris" model is the 1692 version rather than 1669. They are very similar, but with some noticeable differences and its guns also changed. The plans for the second are believed to be in the French archives though reliable info is difficult to obtain, especially so since she underwent at least one major rebuild around 1689.

The only original plans believed to be in existence are for the Soleil built after the Paris model. The most accurate kit of the Paris model is the Heller 1/100 plastic kit. The only difference between the kit and the Paris model is that the side galleries are enclosed, everything else is identical to the Paris model.

So you really need to decide which period in Soleil's life that your own build is being modelled on.

BigGrin cheers for the information guys after a bit of research the guns on the upper decks seem to be falconets of about four pounds so where probably fitted with out-haul tackle only but as Tom said nobody really knows as she was refitted several times Confused
