Shame you have run out of paint but sure you will soon resolve that and be able to press on.

All those upgrades you have made to your build all blend in very well under the paint layer.

Good evening from 'The Dockyard',

This weeks update of my U230 U-boat build sees the lower hull sprayed in the dark grey after restocking and painting in the draught marks.

Although it wasn't as straight forward as that!

After the lower hull was sprayed I began to peel back the masking tape with trepidation, expecting to see loads of over spray only to find there was a minimal amount. In fact the opposite of over spray. No paint at all! In some areas the masking tape took with it some of the paint, even after a liberal coat of varnish, but also a few rivets here and there!

So, to summarise, I've spent all this week applying rivets and painting in by hand all the areas affected. I must admit that rather than get frustrated at the situation, it kind of worked in favour, as where I had touched up with paint, it looked more realistic.

The attached photo shows the dark, medium and light grey areas on the starboard bow.

The attached photo shows the port aft draught marks. I had already painted in the bow and amidships draught marks.

A little tricky as where I had fixed the numbers with a liberal coat of superglue, meant the outline of the numbers was slightly less defined. To be honest, I would rather they remained fixed in place than have one of them get knocked off at a later stage.

Well that concludes this weeks short update.

The next stage, which I have changed my mind several times on regarding the sequence of painting, will see the compartments sprayed in off-white [ivory white], as per the part-works.

I think some of them had split colours with a light grey on the lower half, but I will have to check this. For now though, an even coverage of ivory white will make for a start.

Thanks Tony! I particularly like the camouflage stripes; they add that bit extra, which is one of the reasons I chose this boat.
