Hi all By luck I was reading this forum about plans for the Victory, great idea. We in South Africa are at issue 32, yes the magazine helps a lot but to have the plans from day 1 can help a lot. So tell me, dit you received plans of the Victory????? The Victory cost a about R8 394.00 = £763.09 not t cheap. Albatross, build in 1982 from plans.
Hms Bounty, build in 1987 from plans.
Duyfken,build in 1991 from plans
Oosterland, build in 1998 from plans
2010 Hms Victory kit from Deagostini
In the meantime.
2011 Building MFV 1963 fishing trawler from plan.

Hello shipmates, I read in Tomick's official build diary that we will be getting 1:1 plans for the masts, hope this helps a tad  . Someone on the forum once posted a set of plans for the hull (which may , or may not be around any more if copyright issues were enforced). Like most of us , I'm glad to see that admin are looking to supply us with some official plans at some stage, although I have to agree that they would have been more useful to us at the start of the build. Hello all Victory Builders, In my humble opinion DeAg will not be supplying 1.1 plans of this build for the simple reason scratch builders would be presented with a wonderful opportunity to build this great model without having to buy into the part works. Plans will be supplied for the more detailed work later in the build for items like masts and the like as and when needed. The magazine instructions together with Tomicks offical build diary are all that is required to build this great model Attached is a picture of my build to date, way behind some of the more expert builders, but this is my very first ship build and I am enjoying the experience. Happy building Daffy 09 It is only the main mast plans that are provided at #62 (which shows the construction of the main mast and its spars/yards etc), other plan sets will be provided at the relevant points. Considering the sequence of parts supply and build, and along with the info provided in the magazines, a full plan set supplied at the outset would have been of little practical use, where by the time of need these would likely have be torn and beyond practcial use or mislaid.

May I humbly disagree with this.
One cannot build a house, car, ship, furniture, model or even a doghouse without plans and not expect foul-ups.
Many a time have I solved simple problems just by referring to scale plans of whatever I was building. No amount of photographs, instructions, video clips or hand-holding informs as well as a well designed set of scale plans.
Maybe I'm thick or set in my ways, but ask any engineer, architect, carpenter or shipwright, who wants a sound product at the end of the day.
If it is a case of cost, I'll gladly pay for plans rather than cosmetic touches, like copper tiles.

Whilst I agree that they may have been a useful referral tool, in this instance plans are not a necessity from the outset, simply because the build is being lead from source rather than you being left to work out the build.
Also let's not forget that this is a partwork series rather than plan and box of parts, where the build sequence differs to how one might normally assemble such a model, and where every stage of the process has been carefully worked out in advance and a step-by-step process provided, so that plans are only needed at certain points in the build.
Full plan sets are never supplied at the outset for any partwork series.

Yes Tomick, that's what I was meaning to say but didn't, sorry . On a personal level, I'm getting through the build very well just by following the excellent instructions and photos in the magazine, and by using your diary in parallel. It's just that having something to pin on the wall to look at - not necessarily to work from as I'm not very proficient at building from wood and trying to follow a set of plans would confuse me somewhat! - Just there as an inspiration so to speak Thanks daffy09

Though sight of a full plan set may also daunt some people in seeing the sheer complexity of the model being built, though I agree that a plan on the wall can also be a wow factor.

Hi all Sorry if I stirred the pot that was not my intention. Well we in South Africa still have a looooong way to go before reach #62 LoL. As you can see I built most of my ships models from plan, so yes, I agree there will be guy’s that will take the opportunity if they see the plans, to build there Victory without paying for it. CMB, your Victory build looks very good……..as well as your work bench LOL. Albatross, build in 1982 from plans.
