Ok, so now its time to bring this build to a close with the conclusion of the final elements, mainly the oars. A fairly long process requiring a number of elements starting with a section of 6mm dowel. One end of the dowel required the cutting of a 2mm slot down the centre to accommodate the paddle, this was achieved by marking out and placing the dowel into a vice. Then using a cutting disc on the dremel slowly cut out the slot and finished off with a fine file. The dowel was then placed into a lathe and the other end shaped, a 2mm hole was then drilled into the centre of the dowel to accommodate a smaller 2mm dowel section. Moved onto the paddle, cutting a section from a 2x10mm strip of walnut. Section was then shaped where it is inserted into the dowel and all edges bevelled, finished off with a fine sand. Paddle was then test fitted into the dowel and the end of the dowel shaped to finish. The top of the oar started from a section of 10x10mm limewood, all edges were then evenly bevelled. Drilled a 4mm hole in one end and inserted a small piece of 4mm dowel, this was then shaped to form the top of the oar handle. 2mm hole was drilled in the other end and a piece of 2mm dowel inserted, this is used to marry up with the shaft of the oar. Once happy all the pieces were then glued together, given a final sand followed by 2 coats of matt clear varnish. Had to make up 16 of these.... Made up the stand from sections of walnut, this had to be a low stand otherwise the oars would be sitting in mid air. Pleased to say this build is now done, have enjoyed it tremendously and although its not one for the novice it is one that experienced builders would enjoy. More pics have been posted in the finished build section. http://forum.model-space...amp;m=260081#post260081
