Phil/Andy, thanks for looking in and your comments.. appreciated... @Phil, filling and sanding down is all done by hand. Won't use any power sanders on any of the hulls I put together, they can take off far too much material in a very short period of time and that would prove to be disastrous... I prefer to be in control of the material I remove and start off with a course grade sandpaper... As an update, the second primer coat has been applied and really there isn't much to see so will post again when the first layer of top coat goes on, hopefully this weekend sometime.... Regards Alan

Thanks Tony/Mark, appreciate you looking in and your comments.... Happy to say stage 14 is now complete with the application of the top coat of paint. Two coats of top coat applied (off white) and now will be left to dry thoroughly before continuing.... Next task, more masking to be done as we start to paint the black, yellow and blue banding. Until then, happy modelling..... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Lovely work Alan. Have to agree with Jonny7, "smooth as a baby's bot". If mine turns out half as good, I'll be well satisfied, can't wait to see the black, yellow and blue go on her. Happy building David

Onwards and upwards with the completion of stage 15. This has us masking and painting the black, yellow and blue strips along the hull, this is a lot more work than you would imagine. First job is to mask off the area for the yellow band. This doesn't have to be too accurate as we will be painting over the upper and lower edges of the strip, main thing is to ensure the strip is wide enough. Completely covered the lower hull, stern and bow areas to protect these areas from overspray. Inside the gun ports masked off too and protected the main deck. Yellow band was then painted and left to dry fully. Masking was then removed but left gun ports and stern gallery covered. Next part was to mark off the area for the black band. The upper and lower edges were marked out using a waterline marker to the measurements outlined in the instructions. The lower edge of the yellow band was then sanded over using very fine sandpaper, this is so the seam doesn't show through when the black band is painted. Again masked off the upper and lower hull completely then the black paint applied, including the stern and bow area and left to dry thoroughly. Masking was then removed from the upper hull area. Finally, masked off the upper hull area and painted the blue band. When happy, all the masking was removed and minor touch ups done. Hard part now will be to avoid marking the hull during the rest of the construction, a tall order so no doubt further touch ups will be needed as we progress. That's it for now so until next time, happy building all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):
