Thanks for your nice comments!

Yesterday i produced the boards for the cannon balls.

Next i will look at the poop deck ladders and platforms, which will be a project of it`s own.

Thanks for your nice comments, guys!

I can tell you i don`t like building ladders!!
Everytime i try it turns out a mess.

This time i tried to stain the parts of the ladders before glueing everything together - but it turned out the staining fluid poduced all kind of warping of the parts.

So i had to do it all over again - this time painting it black.

As i expected building those platforms seems a challenge as i don`t really have a plan how to do this and i always seem to have one hand too few.

As a first try i cut a piece of plastic sheet and attached it to the stairs as a base for the planks of the platform.

Not much to see right now - but i`ll keep you updated :)

Nice work Walter. My ladders seem to be a disaster too and I spend a lot of time trying to correct them. Looks like you've got the right idea.

Hi Walter, ladders can be a pain but here is how I do mine....

Take the left and right side strips and clamp them together face to face. This is to ensure the slots line up with each other exactly.

Trim to tops and bottoms to the angles you require, once done separate the strips. Result, left and right strips identical to each other in length and slots matching up.

Cut the number of spars needed and ensure they are exactly the same size. Glue the top spar in place on the side strip making sure it is set at 90 degrees, leave to dry. Then glue the bottom spar in place again leave to dry.

Once that's done, glue the other side strip to the two spars, making sure everything remains square. Finally glue and slide the remaining spars in place.

I also tend to use superglue for ladders rather than PVA. Once done then I can paint or stain as necessary.

Hope this helps..

cheers

Alan

Doing a nice job, those stairs are awkward but once you've mastered them they become easier. Alans way is a very good way to do it.

Thanks guys!

So i`ve finished those platforms. Unfortunately i positioned the ladders in relation to the cannons on the quarterdeck and realized too late, that there is a variation of 3 mm on the port and starboard side.

So now one platform is 3mm longer than the other!!
I didn`t realize that until i already mounted the rails and now i don`t want to do everything over again.

I hope on the finished model it won`t be that noticeable.

For the inside rails i carved the pillars out of 2x2mm wood pieces. I then cut the rail out of a 5x2mm wood.

The outside rails were formed with brass wire.
