Hi all,
I am interested in beginning this model as a first ever build. Simply because all reviews point to
this ship model being aimed at beginners, also with from what I can tell online so far the instructions are easy to follow.
The only part I’m struggling with is what tools and materials I will need to aid my build.
I have checked various model sites however there seems to be a large market so I’m unsure what I will exactly need.
I have opted for the 24 month package as I intend to take this slowly and get it right using all the information on this forum and YouTube channel.
Any advice you all can offer will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Phil,
Welcome to the forum and great choice on the Victory.
The main tools you would need to get you going are, a pin pusher, a craft knife, pencil, glue(Aliphatic resin is better than normal PVA as it is sandable and accepts stain easily) Sand paper in a few grades nothing courser than 120, a small pin hammer, a small 12" metal ruler, maybe a small set square and a plank bender.
Modelspace shop has a few items on the list but for the rest Cornwall model boats or Westbourne models are a good place to get the bits.

Phil. Hi Phil and welcome.
You will find everybody has a slitty different view on essential tools. my general advice is buy as you need the victory Instructions references tools as you go.
my start list would be.
proppeling pencil
steel rule
razor saw
model knife with a no 11 blade
a pack of plastic clamps
sandpaper corse to fine
selection of paint brushes 00, No2, No 4 and a No6 flat.
Aliphatic pva glue
pin pusher (think you may get one with the Victory kit)
blu tack for holding tings on your desk as you work on them
modeling vice, suction base is best or the type that fastens to your desk
Not sure of you still get a plank bender with the kit if not the Amati scissor type is very good or for a little more money an electric one - however there are a lot of different methods around the forum.

Hi Phil Nice choice with the Victory. Not sure if you noticed but with your pack 3 you get the free tool kit so you will get the pin pusher and plank bending tool as part of that set. Looking at the advert for the kit they have changed to the much better quality set in the zipped case and i received this with the re-subscription i did to sovereign of the seas. Before spending extra on the plank nippers and pin pusher (both of which you get in the tool pack at about the time you need them) i would hold off and see what you think too them. I think you can start with some decent glue. A small brush for applying glue to some of the smaller parts, a decent craft knife and some various grades of abrasive paper. As you progress you can add extra items to your tool collection. The other thing i would recommend is a small tool box to keep everything together and in one place and maybe a lidded box or plastic sandwich type box to hold all of the small model pieces that you use as the build progresses. When you get to the planking stage i like to soak my planks and for that the best (and free) item can be an empty milk bottle - 1 litre plastic type or a large pkastic cola bottle or the like. Good choice with the Victory as it has the most comprehensive instructions and a brilliant video guide I started with the Sovereign and had never built a wooden ship kit before but slowly collected the tools I needed A good craft knife and scalpel. A steel rule and set square plus a plank bender, I use an electric one Hope this helps and good luck with your build Martyn Building ?

Welcome to the forum Phil If you look at the web page for the Victory kit you will see a tab saying 'Gifts', clicking on gifts shows you the free basic tool kit that is included with Pack 3 of the subscription. Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
