They exist in the real world and in most model plans.
But what has me curious is that very few people here seem to use them in their photo build logs.
I haven't seen anyone using the "false rabbet" using a piece of strip to do the job and eliminate carving.
SO are they actually necessary?

Hi m8 I have used the rabbet line on my Soliei Royal but this is the first time I have done so as I plank the keel after the second hull planking which covers up the gap between the garboard plank and the keel Hope this helps Martyn Building ? Generally unless a kit has designed one in to put one in yourself is a lot of effort for arguably not a lot of return. I personally see the risk of damage and the time required when comparing against simply putting a chamfer on a plank as not adding up. You would also need a wider first plank if doing this.
If you are building an admiralty model and want to be true to the original construction methods then I totally get it.

There are several sites that if you don't put one in you seem to get a lot of frowny faces for some reason, but I always say it's your model and yours alone and as long as you are happy with it that's the main thing Martyn Building ?
