Hi All
The snipe was the longest serving rotary engined aircraft to stay with the RAF from 1917 to 1927 when it was replaced by the Grebe, Woodcock ad Siskin aircraft. This will be my RAF 100 build.
The kit comes in a nice sturdy box featuring an artists impression of the Snipe in battle with a Fokker D.VII the side show the 5 examples that can be made from this kit.
On opening the box we see the glossy instructions and the 7 sprues of high detail plastic parts. Below the parts are the decals and small amount of etch.
The sprues are in grey plastic and show on examination that the parts are highly detailed the wings even have all the wing tapes moulded on, flash is minimal if at all and hard to find its so small. The parts have also been designed that when cut from the sprue the clean up in that area is easily dome with minimal if any damage done to the model surface. A small clear plastic sprue is also supplied with the windscreen ect.
The small piece of etch has the early wide harness or the later Sutton type along with some handles and a gun sight.
The decals as supplied are for a choice of 5 different aircraft and are well and crisply finished. I also have included a picture of the rigging I will be using on the build the white elastic is flat so will be used to represent the Standard RAF Flat rigging wires.
The instructions are printed on a glossy backing paper that are a joy to behold with all the detail pictures of the build they even include old monochrome and colour pictures of a replica that has an original Bentley BR.2 engine. The rotary engine had a throw away oil system and they also show the castor oil liberally coating much of the bottom of the replica aircraft.
All in all a very nice kit that will make into something special.
