Hi All, Not sure if this is the correct way to add my build update but here goes. At long last the hull planking is finished and it was a challenge. Managed to get out of trouble re the transom and after much messing about completed the lower hull planking, I found the bow planking particularly difficult and at one stage did not think that it was going to work out at all well but decided to strip out 10/12 layers of the bow planking and re-plank tapering from the first of the replacement planks. This allowed the planks to run right through to the bow rather than stopping short and spoiling the visual planking effect. I then sanded smooth and fitted the keel as per the instructions. Having fitted the keel I went back to the upper planking and completed the final layers as per the instructions. Very glad that I decided to leave the last of the upper planking till last as I am sure it would not have survived the trauma of the lower hull planking. Many thanks to all of the members who post great tips and hints, without this input I doubt if I could have got this far into the build, and special thanks to Tomick and his build diary. Below are the latest pictures of my build. Happy building to you all CMB attached the following image(s):

Here is the latest update on my Victory build. This a great learning curve, and I do mean learning as I was never any good at woodwork at school. Now that the hull planking is complete and the lower deck planked I can really see what the finished model will be like. I have colour washed the gratings to hopefully give a darker contrast to the deck which will also be colour washed, using a much diluted Walnut Brown paint. Have also built the ten cannons ready for rigging, and that looks like fun and games as small parts, rope and super glue will be a real challenge. Many thanks to all the forum members and Mr T. who have given such valuable advise, all of which has contributed to my build so far. Will keep you updated as the build progresses. Attached are pictures to date. Happy building to you all CMB attached the following image(s):

Coming along nicely CMB; a shame your woodwork class did not introduce you to such a project, which I am sure would have grabbed everyone's attention and a desire to build such

Hi Fellow Ship Builders, here is the latest update on my Victory model. Building the cannons was not as difficult as I had imagined, but all the work is then covered by the deck. Having colour washed the gratings I decided to do the same with the ladder sections and then colour washed the upper gun deck just to take off the blandness of the raw planks. The deck and gratings were then finished with a coat of clear satin varnish. The quarter deck is now fully planked and the first coat of colour wash applied, this will probably require about three light coats to match the lower decks. Now to build the cabin partitions, ships wheel and bitts. All good fun and very enjoyable, but pushing my skills to the limit. Happy building to you all. CMB CMB attached the following image(s):
