Good afternoon form 'The Dockyard'.

I hope you have all had an enjoyable Christmas break so far.

This weeks update is relatively short, but looks at the pin wash on the port saddle tank.

At this stage I had already applied a liberal coat of pin wash to the saddle tank and now it was a case of removing the excess to really enhance the characteristics of the hull. I was hoping to complete the port side of the U-boat for this update, but the saddle tank took longer than expected so only this part is featured.

The technique saw small bursts with a brush dipped in thinners and removing excess wash, followed by a period of drying time and assessing the whole from a distance. I then used the same technique and removed more pin wash going right up to the weld lines.

The attached photo shows the pin wash applied to the bow /keel.

Looking aft along the port saddle tank. Some of the areas on the following photos look slightly shiny due to the fact that the thinners was still wet.

That concludes this weeks short update. Lots more work required to get the right effect. There are areas where I have removed too much wash and consequently I will have to go back over these again. There are other areas where some of the paint has chipped away which require touching in, pin washing then fading.

That weathering technique is not easy but you have done a brilliant job and on such a latge project.

What I'm finding at the moment is that it's not quite looking how I want it. Blink

So, plenty more work on the pin wash before I'm completely happy then moving onto other types of weathering.
