Does not make sense when there is no ship to replace it and a long way off the carrier ships being operational...strapped for cash MoD it seems... http://www.dailymail.co....p-HMS-Ocean-Brazil.html

Do you think the HMS Ocean will be sold as a defective "as is" item to the Brazilian government like the British Navy sold those defective submarines to Canada?

There are no reports of HMS Ocean being defective, it’s just another MoD cost saving excercise, in reality the Royal Navy currently has no other ship that does what it does. It’s an incredibly capable amphibious and command platform which represented significant UK contribution to NATO’s efforts to maintain security in the Mediterranean region.

If Sub’s were sold “as is” then no doubt Canada bought “as is”.

I’d say Brazil is getting a bargain, HMS Ocean underwent a £65million upgrade in 2014 and interesting that just 1 year later it was announced to be decommissioned Blink

HMS Albion and Bulwark and the role of 1,000 Royal Marines are also heading for the chop it seems. It’s all part of the £7.3 billion of “efficiency savings” on top of £7.1 billion previously announced., meanwhile the extortionate cost of F-35’s for both Elizabeth class carriers simply grows year on year Blink

The return of HMS Ocean means Britain has no major warships deployed on operations beyond home waters. Vice-Admiral John McAnally, national president of the Royal Naval Association, has said that the scarcity of frigates and destroyers overseas was unprecedented and indicates the fleet is too small.

It's reported that the Brazilian Navy paid £84 million, a good deal considering that £65m was spent on it in 2014 alone., the vessel is expected to remain in the UK until Oct/Nov 2018.

If as it seems, HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark are to be taken out of service, our navy has no way to attack enemy-held beaches and no wonder why the French Navy is considering allowing UK’s Royal Marines greater access to its amphibious ships should the Bulwark and Albion be axed as part of defense cuts. Simply laughablel, let’s hope we don’t go to war with France eh?! Blink
