Looking like the cannons are little models in their own right, nice level of detail from this kit, craning Job Alan.

Jess, Jase, thanks for looking in and your comments, appreciated.... The cannons are detailed for their size yet they are simplistic in their rigging as you will see, simply because I'm doing an out of the box build. Even though the rigging is simplistic there is of course the scope for other builders to add further detail if desired....Cool Cool

Alan

This build session had me fitting and rigging the 10 gun carriages onto the lower deck. The rigging of the carriages is very simplistic but will hardly be seen when the next deck is fitted, as a result they will not be enhanced in any way. There is scope for builders to add additional rigging and blocks if desired....Cool Cool

First item on the agenda was to take 20 brass eyelets and treat them with Krick blackening fluid. Each eyelet was then trimmed leaving a shaft of 1.5mm, this length is important as I didn't want to see them protruding though the other side of the hull. Then drilled 1mm holes either side of the gun ports, glued and fitted the eyelets into position and left to dry.

Glued the 10 gun carriages onto the lower deck ensuring they were set centrally within each gun port, each cannon protruding through the port by 6mm and left to dry.

Took lengths of 0.25mm thread and passed it through the holes in each side of the carriage. The ends were then tied to the previously fitted eyelets and secured with a drop of superglue, when dry the ends were trimmed. This concluded stage 19 of the build.

Next stage has us making up the ammunition boxes so until next time, happy modelling.....Cool Cool

Hi Alan
Haven't been on here much this year and just caught up on this build (like so many other builds) and am very impressed with the paint job, what masking tape do you use ?

Thanks guys, appreciated....

@ Gibbo, the masking tape I use for all of the edging is Tamiya 6 and 18mm. For other areas I simply use a standard masking tape available from DIY outlets. Works for me and mixing it this way simply keeps down the costs.....Cool Cool

In Stage 20 we make up 4 of the ammo boxes. This starts from cutting 3 10mm pieces from a 1x3mm and cleaned up all the edges. Each end was then cut to an angle of 30 degress so that a triangle was formed when glued together, this proved to be quite fiddly to do before being acceptable. Once dried, each ammo box was given a couple of coats of yet more red paint.

Cannon balls were treated with a blackening agent before being used to fill each ammo box. When everything was dry they were then glued into position on the deck....

This brought to an end stage 20, next stage is where we make up the 3 hatch covers so until then, happy modelling.....Cool Cool

Regards
