Thanks for looking in and your comments. Phil, I am planning on raising part of the flight deck, maybe on clear acrylic rods, to make the internals visible – well that’s the plan anyway.

I now, hopefully, have the hull ready for its final coat of primer but it will have to wait until the weather warms up a little as it’s too cold in the shed (even with a heater) for spraying just now. In the mean time I have been fitting the elevators out with their hardware.

Pic 1 just shows the bow elevator with its pulley placement template in place. I gave all three elevators a coat of grey paint (applied by brush) prior to fitting any parts. Pic 2 shows all three elevators after painting with their respective templates fitted and Pic 3 shows the bow elevator after the pulley positions had been marked and the template removed.

The motor shaft is supposed to fit over the drum shaft and into the gearbox but , as Yaturo and Andy pointed out in Andy’s build log, the drum shaft sits too high and fouls the motor shaft. To rectify this I built up the bases of the motor and gearbox assemblies with scrap plastic card so that the motor shaft just clears the drum shaft, Pics 3 & 5.

All the metal parts were then cleaned up, fixed to tape and sprayed first with metal primer and then with grey paint, Pic 6. The motor, gearbox and drum assemblies were then glued in place together with the floor pulleys and those at the top of the sides, Pic 7. I deviated from the instructions in that instead of fitting the cables to the drums before gluing the drums in place, I cut the cables longer than specified (using thread I already had) and first glued one end to the counter weights then threaded the cables through the top pulley, down the side wall, Pic 8, around the floor pulleys and then round the drum. The pulley at the bottom of the wall was glued over the cable prior to finally gluing the cable to the drum.

Pic 9 shows the first elevator completed and Pic 10 shows all three elevators together.

It is now a waiting game for the weather to get a little bit warmer to allow me to heat the shed sufficiently to be able to spray the hull.
