A Little Late To The Party , But Was It Worth The Wait ? Well nearly 12 months since I signed up for the R2 build so thought it was about time I cracked on with it, after receiving the first few issues I realised that this build was going to be full of very tiny steps with very little to get your teeth into each month. So made the desition to leave it till I had the Dome piece and then start. Keeping my eyes on the forum and the official build I noticed that the dome was to be arriving at issue 50 ... great I can finally clear the every growing mountain of bags in the corner of the office and start with the build ! I was hoping that the dome would have arrived before the end of my Christmas break, but the Gods of Royal Mail were not kind, so in my last few days left of my break I decided to make a start. 48 Issues and two days later .... well that was fun, couple of hick-ups along the way, a few circumnavigated due to being made aware from the forum & other peoples experiences (thanks guys, your heartaches made things smoother for me !). Was it worth the wait ? ... hell yes, really enjoyed the challenge, glad I waited as opposed to doing small bits every month ... after all some of the issues there really was nothing to do at all. While to the dome is developing I may build monthly ... looking at the official build, and the up and coming additions I don't think I'll be able to resist the tempation ! Well there is very little point of telling you what to do step by step, as most of you would have done this a while a go, and if not there are plenty other builds covered so I'd just be regurgitating what others have already said ... however I will be posting pictures of my stages ... even if just to join in. So next step is to sort out and upload the pictures ... wish me luck , this may or may not work .... Hi Phil, I`ve built mine as it arrived and it`s a bit of a shock to see all the parts so far in a pic like that. The good thing is that you can now have a good build session and see lots of progress in a short space of time. Late to the party or not, I`m sure you`ll love putting this droid together and I wish you lots of fun. Finally congrats on your "Blue" medal for starting your diary. "Red" one available when you hit the finish line. ENJOY Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Projector went together with no major issues arpurchase .... although thanks to the forum reports I was already aware of the issues of only Luke showing up ... only "Oh *@!$" moment was when I didnt relise I was projecting it too close to my "Screen" for it to show .... a little pull back sorted that "moment" out ! nice to see another build up! as delboy mentioned, its quite shocking seeing everything in a pile like that! you did well to hold off a whole year, i think i lasted about 3 months..... as for building up the dome, due to all the panels just stuck on with tape, i shall be holding off adding them until issue 64/5 when its all assembled together as i don't want to inadvertently pop a panel off. so that will be around April time for me now with no building at all! Building: Ghostbusters Ecto-1, Ford GT40, Gone in 60 seconds Eleanor mustang, Shelby Cobra Complete: R2D2, Red Bull RB7 RC, Battleship Bismarck, Shelby GT500 'super snake'

Well the first 4 issues were not very taxing, the main reason that initially I decided to hold on before I started the build ... please note Super Glue appears due to the need for the assembly of the dampener doo dah ickymagigs© (other glues are available). Also for interest, the R2 that appears in these pictures is the rather amusing "Bop It!" R2D2 ... a Christmas present of much mirth ... other items will follow , wow, now we're really peaking your interest ! Well next set of 4 issues are imaginatively titled 5 through to 8 , no upsets or issues , starting to find my way, and feeling at one with my "Screwdriver" This set of 4 shows a guest appearance by the Hasbro remote R2D2 .. like a cheap mans Sphero ! Well without appearing to be predictable the next set of 4 will mostly be consisting or 9 all the way through to 12 (inclusive) , immersing myself now , the dome is beginning to take shape , empty plastic bags are sporadically strewn around the office and little packages of "Unused parts" rising higher. The droid that will be appearing for the next few issue is the Disney Diecast R2 PhilC attached the following image(s): SOME MORNINGS IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM WORTH IT TO GNAW THROUGH THE LEATHER STRAPS

Due to the surprise success of the earlier addition DeAgostini follow with tradition and the next 4 issue are predictably 13, 14, 15 & 16 , I is now a modelling demon, as long as you ignore the thumb injuries from the staples and the strained eyesight from searching for ludicrously small screws hidden in unfeasibly deep carpet ! For your delight and amusement, this runs star performer will be Boba Fett Bobblehead ! Coming on very nicely Phil. As for the small screws, a small metal detector can sometimes come in handy. Mark Regards Markwarren (Mark) Admin

For the more observant amongst you , yes you are correct the next 4 issues are 17, 18, 19, 20 ... with number 19 being one of the highlights ! sliding the two plastic pieces into the leg section (not even fixed , just slid in) ... now I ain't an expert modeller, but even I found that a little too easy ! For your viewing pleasure, this update will be mostly displaying a Stormtrooper Bobble Head PhilC attached the following image(s): SOME MORNINGS IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM WORTH IT TO GNAW THROUGH THE LEATHER STRAPS

Throwing caution to the wind I once again decided to conform with basic maths and carried on with 21, 22, 23, & 24 ... this was to be my last set of Issues for the day ! All 24 in one hit the office looked like a plastic recycling plant had exploded in it , me and my screwdriver were now in a symbiotic relationship , and the other half refused to let me bring it to bed with us. One error that I made with this section, and to come back and haunt me later, was I put the wheel brace on the leg the wrong way round (issue 21), not sure if I was rushing a bit or it was just after a long day , but either way I missed it .... for now ! Well thats it day one over, and your star performer for this build set is "Darth Tater" ... the evilest of the Sci-Fi potato heads PhilC attached the following image(s): SOME MORNINGS IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM WORTH IT TO GNAW THROUGH THE LEATHER STRAPS

Okay I know I may be jumping ahead on my build but this was what I was waiting for , had a heart-stopping moment when I placed it over the frame and it didnt line up !!! Thought I had put the frame together incorrectly like a few others have mentioned .... however ... back to front ! Quick 180 , and fits ... Nothing like breaking into a "stash". Life can get in the way of partwork deliveries but when you get to start its a treat as you have so much to crack on with. Hope you enjoy your build and that it goes well for you. Happy Modelling
