When testing the leg ultrasound sensor i am not getting the same results as mentioned in the build instructions. They state to start 2m away from a solid object (in my case i am using a wall). I start at the stated 2m, all good no blue light. At 1.3m the blue light comes on, at 200-300mm the light goes off again. This is the same for both legs, and also a 3rd sensor i have (i was sent an extra copy last month).

Surely this can not be 3 duff sensors if they are all doing exactly the same thing.

I notice there is 2 adjustable resistors on the sensor board, perhapse these are not set up correctly to set the sensitivity of the ultrasonics? Although that is jumping the gun as i dont know what they are for.

Please dont just give the standard order new parts line. If parts were faulty surely i cant have such bad luck that 3 dont work, unless the actual sensor board is faulty, but everything else works as it should, so hard to believe.

Yes and on further testing mines the exact same with the same measurements and the same led pattern, off 1.3m on then 300- 200 back off. i think this is going to be a real issue later on and a pain in the bottom. i have a new board coming so im going to have a little tweek with the screws and see what the outcome is.

I would not read to much into it if the parts are not doing as the stage instructions say then there faulty and purely just that.

Personally I would not mess with anything and doing so could void the warranty on the part as it would no longer be as supplied.

The best thing to do is reorder new parts my sensors are working fine on the official build.

Not planning on messing with anything, hence asking 1st. Seems a bit unlikely that i have so many faulty parts though. Is it sensors? I have tried 3 and all giving exactly the same result. Is it the test board? Is it the sensor board? If i follow as per the official video on youtube, then yes i am getting the same result. Following the instructions i the mag, i get what i stated above. What is correct? Seems a bit sus that so many parts are faulty as your telli g me that every single piece of electronics i have is faulty. That just dosent seem to add up to me. Something is wrong, its either the parts, the instructions, or how im testing it.

Yes i would totally agree with you there. We are both facing the EXACT same issue. It would be impossible surely for us both having the same results and both having 5 faulty sensors between us. Does seem sus, this needs to be looked into by a technician. I have a gut feeling that when everyone gets issue 53 next week they will all be here asking!

With so many parts being made there will be a percentage of parts that will fall short of the required working parameters this is a known fact for any manufacturing process.

If any part is found to be faulty then just reorder a replacement.

As I have already said my sensors are fine your just unlucky enough to get sensors that are faulty and probably from the same batch.

I totally get that, but the laws of chances of recieving every single part faulty is slim.

Read what i write. If i stand the led i free space more than 2m from any object the blue light is off, as it should be. Then following the instructions to move a solid object towards it the light should come on at 500mm yes? Mine activates at 1.3m, thats 3 times the distance not 500mm. If i follow the de agostini video on youtube and just place something at 500mm the the light comes on as it should. So is it something im doing wrong, or an unclear instruction in the magazine? Im asking because there have been several errors in the mag to date.

Im not angry or anything, just simply asking a question to clear something up as im having a little bit of trouble. It may turn out to be my understanding. I dont see the point in ordering replacement parts if its simply not needed. Please also note that i am posting totally independant to other people. I ca even make videos and link them if it helps you understand my queery better?

To quote the instructions it says:-

Ensure nothing is directly within 2m of the shoulder sensor. Then hold up a solid object and move it towards the sensor.

Are you using the piece of wood as shown as it is a way of testing the sensor with low power from the battery test box. Its a simple low powered test to check the sensor reacts in a certain way ,hence the use of the wooden stick.

If the sensors do not react as they say in the instructions then get a replacement.

No it dosent say that at all. It says

3. "ensure nothing is directly within 2m of the shoulder sensor. The hold up a solid object and move it towards the sensor."
4."when the object is around 500mm away, this vlue indicator light should come on"

Have you followed the stage three instructions and used a stick as asked to do the test

i dont have any wood, so instead i am moving the leg towards a solid wall, i figured it would have the same result. no other objects around and the led activates at 1.3m (i set up a tape measure), it stays on until its around 300mm then turns off, im trying to find if this is correct, or if i have a problem.

however, if i leave the leg in free space and 'cut' in front of the sensor with one of the binders at around 500mm it does the same as the de agostini video and the led lights up. so im just feeling a little confused. so which method is giving me the correct result? i also checked and replaced the batteries with brand new duracell ultra (the ones with the test strip on the side, and they all test as full), just incase my old batts were getting low (they have been in for a year, tested various led panels and screens and the projector after all). i hope youre understanding my confusion. if i can confirm a part is faulty, then by all means i shall endeavour to have it replaced, and update as needs be. im just seeing different instructions, and getting different results with each one and not sure which is correct.

Using the binder to carry out the test gives the correct results as the instructions ask for so the sensors are working correctly.

Again this is a low power test using the test box.

Asking the sensor to react to a wall on low power is simple asking it to do too much for the power available.

but again, starting the binder at 2m, and moving it towards as the instructions say to the light comes on at 1.3m. the same as moving towards a wall. so what is correct? move an object towards it, or wave an object at 500mm distance?

the instructions say to do 1 thing, the de agostini video shows a different thing (basically just waving an object in front at 500mm). this is where im super confused.

following 1 set of instructions i have a problem. following the other set i dont, so which is correct? as if im confused (and i build jet engines for a job that are far more complicated than this) im pretty sure there will be many more out there feeling the same way. and not everyone has access to here, or youtube so are relying on the magazine.

yeah, there's certainly some confusion somewhere.

up to date i have followed all build instructions religiously. if i have been unsure of something or had an issue i them come here and check the build diary, which usually clarifies things up, and to date the only issue was with screws early on when the mag said 1 size and the build diary said a different size, that was quickly clarified. the other issue was what everyone had with the projector only showing 1 vid, when it turned out that since the mag went to print the hardware had been changed.

so we havent had the best run of clear instructions through the whole build. its still confusing with the screws, sometimes it gives a size in the instructions, but none of the screws are marked up, sometimes its jsut use the black screws for eg (we have several) or others its just said use the screws supplied last time. but i think im muddling through pretty well so far. dont get me wrong, im absoluetly loving it, and challenges like this are what make it fun for me. im not trying to cause arguments, or slate anything or anyone. i have been collecting things from de agostini since i was 4 years old! (and other too over the years). some of you guys may recognize me from the rb7 that i built last year, even that was easier to follow foe screws and fixings etc. so im a bit lost with why the screws are so mixed up on this one. hey ho, im sure we will get to the bottom of this in the end. currently i firmly believe its and instructional error and that my parts are perfectly fine.

The confusion seems to be yours., you state that your test works as indicated in the instructions, therefore the end result of your test works as it should. Can we now please move on
