Hey Belchfire. I'm a newbie too, but just wanted to share my embarrassing moment with you, as it may solve your problem. I worked issue 1 and my LED wouldn't light up either. I went so far as to pull out my ohm meter, testing voltages, and was in the process of disassembling the battery pack to resolder it, when I turned it over and discovered the on/off switch. One quick flip, and the LED came to life.
Current Builds: R2D2, Millenium Falcon

The replacement test board didn't solve the problem. I called and told them I finally used straight pins in the clips of my ancient Heathkit multimeter to test the battery box leads. The black wire wasn't connected inside. I called Modelspace, and they said the replacement would arrive in 2 weeks. 3 days later, it arrived along with issues 4-8. The LEDs work, and I'm reading each magazine before I do the tiny bit of assembly. Tomorrow, I do #5, more lights!
