Is there a good 1-page reference to ensure all the dome frame pieces are in the right place? The top of the frame is keyed so can only fit some one way, but not all of the cut-outs are linked up So a quick reference to ensure all the pieces are in the right place would be useful, rather than having to dismantle & go through the whole dome build again I hope someone can help Thanks Well spin my nipple-nuts & send me to AlaskaCurrent Builds:McLaren MP4-23Finished007's Aston Martin DB5FinishedMillennium FalconR2-D2BTTF Delorean (Maybe)

Hi Kryten. I had noticed what is probably the same thing on my build, but was not worried. On my frame, all the obvious openings - projector, camera, diagnostic lights, etc. - all line up. I presume that some of the longer ones, such as that covered by a series of 'portrait' orientation rectangles, are actually to hold electronics or something on the inside of the dome. Hi Coser, Thanks for the reply but mine is definitely wrong. I am going by the alignment of the "Primary Photoreceptor Faceplate" ringed in green on the dome & frame. if you now compare the top one-way keyhole they do NOT line up (in red) . So any guidance or references eagerly accepted - thanks kryten2b attached the following image(s): Well spin my nipple-nuts & send me to AlaskaCurrent Builds:McLaren MP4-23Finished007's Aston Martin DB5FinishedMillennium FalconR2-D2BTTF Delorean (Maybe)

I see. Yes, that's definitely wrong. It looks like you have missed lining up the arrows at the start of each 'layer' of the frame. If you have not had any further replies by tonight, I'll post some pics of mine and we can see where yours is different. Edit: Gut feeling is that the top layer is correct to the crown, but that layer is off with the one beneath. Hi My dome arrived today so I`ve checked out that mine fits and it does. I`ve attached a pic below with reference points of alignment. A: is the key on top of the frame with the longest part of the key furthest away. B: is the where the two alignment arrows should be. C: is from the gap in the upper ring to the holes that are in one piece in the lower ring. Hope this helps. Hi Kryten It looks as if you have started on the right foot with the top layer and the arrow aligning. Check the other layers, as you have definitely misaligned the other rows somewhere. Checkout Derek’s picture or the official build log. Hope you get it sorted. Mark

Hi Coser, thanks for the pointer on layer 1 > Layer 2 So I checked & it was the placement of the very first layer 2 frame. All the layer 2 & 3 frame parts were aligned correctly with each other, just not with layer 1. So I removed just layer one & twisted it to the correct orientation & all looks good now :) kryten2b attached the following image(s): Well spin my nipple-nuts & send me to AlaskaCurrent Builds:McLaren MP4-23Finished007's Aston Martin DB5FinishedMillennium FalconR2-D2BTTF Delorean (Maybe)

Can you please give me the dimensions (in millimeters) of the dome? I'd like as many dimensions as you can give me - height, circumference, diameter, size of holes, etc. This is for the metal part itself. Thanks!

For what purpose...Why not just buy issue 51 and you’ll have all you need?

What a weird question? Especially for a first post. It makes it sound like "TheQuestor" is looking to build a full size replica and just wants to double the given measurements. If I was doing that, £8.99 for issue 51 seems like a bargain. It also makes me wonder why he hasn't looked up the R2-D2 builder's guild, which has been mentioned a time or two on different build threads. They are sure to have the knowledge to help. Actually, I'm building the DeAgostini 1:2 R2, just as you are; I'm simply modifying it to my own liking. I have a Build Blog going on the RPF at https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=285189; I will eventually receive my own dome, but I'm trying to plan ahead. It's going to take time to design the custom parts, which I'll be creating with a 3D printer. Any help is appreciated.

Now that's a cool idea. I'll have to look at that thread shortly. I'm curious as to what modifications you are doing. If I had more experience with things like that, I'd have considered doing a completely different head and painting him up as 'red' from the sandcrawler and farm scenes from ANH. Yes, the parts are "copyrighted" - which means exactly nothing. Even if they're patented, it only means I can't produce identical parts for sale without permission.
For my OWN work, I'm allowed to do whatever I want - otherwise, there would be no such thing as "kit bashing" with ordinary model kits. I am creating my own UNIQUE parts - only tangentially related to the originals - to replace the originals with.
If I were planning on selling the model, I'd be in for a long haul to get permissions. However, this is for ME. I'm ok. I know what I'm doing.

So: Could one of you kindly measure the dome across and vertically in millimeters? I'd really appreciate it.
