This is not a Victory question, just a general one

Is there a fixed way to do these, on my Cutty sark the shroud and ratline cotton is the same thickness, but on another model I have the cotton is different thickneses which seems to be the norm. But again I have seen on other models both are the same thickness. So is there a set standard?

Dead Eyes, I saw a thread about a dead eye tool, but this must mean tha you do the dead eyes off the model and attach them to the shrouds, but again have seen other instructions where you fit the shrouds first and attach the dead eyes onto them and the boat where you then tie the dead eyes. So should you fit the dead eyes and then thread them or should they be threaded off the model? Again is there a standard way?

I hope my questions makes sense, as reading over it it has confused me, but then again I'm easily confused after a couple of painkillers

saint lets clear some of the points up,I have put this up before but can't find it,so here goe's.
the shrouds are the standing rigging from which the ratlines are tied to.the ratlines make up the ladder like rigging, they are or should be much thinner then the shrouds,
on the cuttysark the lower line of deadeyes are level with the bulwark handrails, you can make up a pattern out of stiff wire to get the distance between the upper and lower deadeyesby making a 'u' shape and one end goe's in the deadeye holeon the upper lot and the other end of the wire in the bottom lot.I personally tie each shroud or in pairs.there is a shroud/ratline loom by amati, but I found it to be useless.

thanks Karl, yet again I've asked a question covered elsewhere, but couldn't find it either.
Again I ask , how about a completely separate hints and tips sticky thread, to which only tips etc should be posted, with no reply's cluttering up the thread
