Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. This weeks update continues with removing the pin wash from the hull. Applying the pin wash then removing the excess creates a bit of depth as the wash remains untouched in all the joins and gaps. Unbeknownst to me at the start of this stage of the build, I hadn't factored in the amount of time this particular task would take. Coupled with the fact that in sections I had removed too much with thinners and in some places gone through the paint!  All of these elements have left me a little despondent and full of doubt as I went through a phase thinking I had ruined the model after all that work. Suffice to say my modelling mojo on this particular project has taken a dip of late. The good news is that I think i'm about to turn a corner on this build. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty more to do before I can move on, but gradually i'm edging closer to the end. The process is quite enjoyable but when faced with such a large area, inspiration can flag, which is what I've been experiencing. Anyway, enough of my ramblings, the attached photo shows work being done on the lower, port aft side, where the rudders will be fitted. All the photos in this weeks post show the boat upside down. This photo is looking at the lower side of the port saddle tank. If you look closely you can see small, white flecks around the vent. This is where I have gone through the top coat and into the undercoat! I will have to retouch this area and several others dotted around the hull with top coat before pin washing again. Would never have noticed the white flecks if you hadn't pointed them out.... Am sure it's going to look superb when you finally cross the finish line.... Keep at it, she's looking fab..... Regards Alan

Sorry to hear that your motivation for this build has taken a slight downturn Phil but don't give up, it happens to all of us and often results in a model being placed on the 'shelf of doom' for months, sometimes years before interest kicks in again one day. Besides which it's a fabulous build you have here and would it be such a shame if you gave up now that you are closing in on the end game?!
It's easy enough to repair the areas where your thinners have worn through the paint. Just give it a quick blow over with your airbrush or spray can on top of your weathering using the original grey base colour, let it dry for a day or two, then go through the same process you used to weather the rest of the model first time around and eventually you will blend it all back together?

I would have not noticed had you not pointed them out. Your build has been inspirational to a lot of us, and we all hit the brick wall now and then. I'm sure you you will soon sort it all out, especially as you are so close to the finishing line. Besides I would be more worried about that kettle coming out the top.  Keep up the good work.  Mark
