Sometimes in modelling you have to take a step backwards before you can move forward and this is certainly true with this build stage. Here we had to sand smooth the new planks added to the top of the bulwarks, unfortunately this meant damaging some of the paintwork already done. ,Once smooth then had to trim back the deck at the bow, add a filler strip that needed bending to shape first.

Took a strip 2x2mm, bent to match the curvature of the bow and glued into position and again sanded smooth. Final step was to apply a fine filler to hide any joints between the old and the new, gave it a final sanding. Tidying up of the paintwork will be done in stage 32 but before that we move onto drilling out the padeyes at the stern. Until then, happy modelling.....Cool Cool

Thanks to all who looked and commented, appreciate the support....Cool Cool .. Not worth posting stage 31 on its own as this was simply the drilling of 8, 1mm holes as the padeyes on both sides at the stern. The hole positions are as set out in the instructions. To get a neat finish and to avoid splintering the wood as you drill through, place a wooden block behind when drilling....

Stage 32 was the tidying up of the paintwork damaged earlier. Then is was down to giving a final sand to the inside of the bulwarks and masking off the deck once again. Then gave the bulwarks coats of, you guessed it, more lovely red paint, this also included the inner edges of the gun ports. These will be finished off later in the build.

Next we start to add some of the detail so until then, happy modelling all.....Cool Cool

Regards

Alan

Thanks Andy, Jase, appreciated....Cool Cool .. Next stage of the build had me creating and adding decorative mouldings to the top of the bulwarks on the outside of the hull. Started by taking three 1 x 3mm strips, sanded smooth and created the moulding using the shaping tool 27300. Once the correct profile was achieved I then smoothed everything over using a fine sanding sponge, then painted the strips with the same blue as used on the outside of the hull, left to dry.

Cut lengths to fit along the tops of the bulwarks, leaving the gun ports free. The bow strips needed to be bent to match the curvature of the hull, this was done using an electric plank bending tool. It was during the test fitting of the bow strips that a problem was identified. In a previous stage we added strips to the bow of the ship to raise the height of the bulwarks, the ends of the strips towards the centre of the ship had to slope downwards however, when it came to fitting the decorative strip the instructions show this area without the slope, just a straight cut down. No mention in the instructions to change this area so decided to look at how the actual ship looks now and video showed there was no slope to this part of the bulwark. It was here I decided to modify the bulwarks to match the actual ship as she is today, the strips were then glued in place.

Once dry, I then filed the ends of the strips at the gun ports, cleaned up all the gun ports then painted the insides with our favourite red. That took us to the end of stage 33, the next stage has us fitting the rail caps so until then, happy building all.....Cool Cool

Regards

The shaping tools are great Gibbo once you get the hang of how best to use them. There are actually 2 sets numbered, 27300 and 27301. On this build we require both sets.....Cool Cool
