Hi Zeptrader
Are you in a position to tell us who has built that lovely model?
Before some of the less experienced members of the forum start worrying, it should be noted that the model is of Victory in her 1765 configuration when she had the much grander figurehead decoration and the open stern galleries.

Hi friends, Whilst we're talking about the rigging, can anyone offer any advice about preparing the lines so that they do not appear 'hairy' (sorry, I don't know a better way to describe it). Someone suggested beeswax but are there any other options that would help? Happy building Daffy09

hi daffy, this has been discussed very early into this build and it went on these lines, bees wax,(block)my method is to use diluted pva after rigging has been installed.I use a rag dunked in the solution.then wiped on the rigging. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Beeswax is the most comon method, here's a couple of others...
For thin lines, a drop of PVA glue glue between your index finger and thumb, and rub into the thread by passing between your index and thumb, this also gives the line a bit of rigidity and helps to keep knots tight and lines taut, though don't overdo it, excess rigidity is not good and too much PVA can end up making the thread brittle enough to break, and not forgetting that the PVA will set the line to shape once dry.
A method for thicker lines is to quickly pass the line over a candle flame, this will burn off the fuzz, but take great care in doing this so that you don't burn the line or your fingers!

There are guys out there who use a candle or lighter flame as a means for plank bending, not a method I would want to adopt but like most things its down to personal choice, and what suits one does not always suit another.

Thanks Tomick and Karl. Yes well!! I don't think I'll be trying the candle method, but thanks for the beeswax confirmation, I couldn't remember if I'd seen it earlier in the forum and just wanted to check it out. I think I'll give the PVA a try as well. Seem to have a fair amount of thread left over from the cannon rigging stage which I can practise on first. Thanks again Daffy09
