Hi All, Back to some actual modeling again. I'm glad to be done with the fiddly bits. I found it easier planking the second deck off the job. I kept it in two halves, running down the centre line if the ship. I measured the coffee stirrer and halved the dimension and drew a line along the deck. My intension is that the coffee stirrer will overlap the other half of the deck part hiding the seam. Before a started the planking, I taped the decks together and made sure that they fitted comfortably. I laid the centre plank first taking care of its position. Once it dried I laid the remaining planks. I planked over the smaller openings and will cut them out once dry. A couple more test fits as I approached the slots for the bulkheads and eventually everything fitted snugly. Once the coffee stirrers were dry, I flipped the deck and scribed some lines on the underside. This will resemble the underside of the deck. I’m not sure how much will be visible though. kind regards, garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hi All, I Stained deck using Light Oak wood stain. I like the alcohol-based stains as they dry pretty fast. Once all was dry, I fitted the deck to the ribs. Fortunately, the deck has been in and out a couple of times and is a fairly loos fit. This is important, should the components be forced, they may move some parts out of alignment and end up with a warped model. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. Hi All, Started Starboard side panels. I fitted the external panels as per the instructions, but the internal panels are devoid of any detail. Following an old Pearl blog, (Thank you Swordfish Fairey) I liked the offset between the black and Light oak colour of the internal wall sections. To achieve this, I scored lines to represent planking, darkened them using a B4 pencil & stained using Light Oak wood stain. Coffee stirrers to the rescue again. I painted them and some left-over Victory planking black to resemble the internal structure and glued them to the scored piece. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. Hi All, Fitted the Port side panels. Applied the same treatment as with the Starboard side panels. I have a commercial nailer, but it never seems to hold the pin properly. To rectify this, I made this nailer after I completed my Victory planking. The pliers just seem to give so much more control. I have posted these pics in my HMS Victory build blog, but I will post them again here. I cut a slot into both jaws of an old pair of long nose pliers to accommodate the pin head and filed a grove down the middle. No more twisting/rotating pins!!! Since posting that, I have learned that model railroad suppliers sell the exact pliers - with slots milled in for pinning model railroad tracks. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl.
