Hi All,

I'm a big fan of the master and commander series having read the books a few times.

I was planning to make a model of the HMS Sophie and was wondering if anyone had seen it done somewhere before?

I also can't decide on the base kit to use between Occre, Mamoli and Caldercraft.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Thank you both for your replies,

Martyn I was thinking that Sophie is probably not a cruiser class due to either being based off HMS Speedy (speedy class, cutter hull) or HMS Vincejo (Captured Spanish Brig) with the defining feature being a quarter Deck.

With this in mind I was thinking maybe Mamoli's Blue Shadow Kit with modifications bringing her to Naval Standards or Caldercrafts HMS Mars for her shorter hull and sleeker lines than Hms Cruiser.

I've not built kits from either company before, which is the superior quality do you think?

Thanks for the help!

The Mamolia kits have a reputation for poor instructions and just enough wood to complete the project where Caldercrafts kits have a lot more wood and better plans but I have not built any of the manufacturers products
Looking forward to seeing your build
