Well, what a mammoth task that was. Never thought it would of taken so long to complete this stage, but it's now done. Finito. In the bag. Time to move on. I'll be marking out and painting in the waterline next week as well as lightly sponging the hull below it with algae coloured paint. Before I go, a couple of stats regarding 'pin wash gate'. I used nearly a bottle of thinners [200ml] and 250 cotton buds, that's 500 individual ends! Bring on the algae! Thanks for looking in, have a great weekend and happy modelling. Regards, Phil W. I've said it before somewhere in your build thread Phil, I admire your perseverance as many would have given up before now, but you haven't. Congratulations and well done on such an excellent result after all of that laborious and repetitive work, it certainly seems to have paid off big time.
Here's looking forward to the next exciting stage in your build diary Phil. Will be following with great interest, keep up the great work!

Lovely work Phil. Can’t believe you counted the cotton (wool) buds, I’d have fallen asleep at number 6. Mark

Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. This weeks update of my U230 U-boat build is all about the waterline. I started off by marking out the water line, at a realistic level, using a pencil clamped to an engineers square. See attached photo. It wasn't all plain sailing [ahem] though. I started off quite prudently but nothing seemed to happen until I really layered it on, then the hull turned green! Nice effect though, but a bit much. So out with the cotton buds and thinners to fade it out slightly. This worked well as it was easily removed. So, plenty of adding darker wash to some areas then thinning other areas back to achieve an even blend all over. Photo of the port bow.
