Hi All
Off our local beach in 1552 there was a Portugese ship wrecked returning from the East laden with Chinese pottery,Carrillion Beads and Pepper now and again if we are lucky we can find pieces of beads and pottery washed up on the beach particulary after a storm,I was wondering if anyone new of a ship model that would be a match for the ship from what I have read it was a Caraval it would be cool to build one and display the pottery etc with the model and have the ships name on the model any thoughts or reccomendations appreciated
PS
The model in the pic I found in a shed on the property when I bought the house made completely of metal

Hi All
Thanks for the responses after some more research(there is not much data)our shipwreck seems to have been one of the largest ships in the Portugese fleet at 900tons so it could not have been a Caraval as far as I know I have seen Carrick or galleon tossed around but I am not sure,I have seen an photo of an etching from the time depicting the wrecking and it has 3 masts also there were 600 people on board 100 and odd died in the wreck the rest set up camp on the beach and decided to walk to Delgoa Bay about 500 mles away the only Portugese colany on the East Coast at that time, eventually only 25 survived The ships name was Sao Joas It means ST John I think but I have also dicovered that there were many ships with that name. thought this was going to be easy hahaha
Regards
Trevor
