TIS a little useful tip would be to use glass paint on white LED's to get the desired effect you are looking for if you use a yellow glass paint you will get the effect of various shades throughout the ship which would look better Hope this helps Allan A very good point, thanks. _____________________________________

I am too thinking of adding a bit of lighting so I thought I would just have my say on the subject. LED lighting is a good way to go, but there are a couple of things you have to remember, each LED bulb will require a resistor and these can get hot! then you have to think about your power supply, A 12v External Hard Drive supply is a good choice as they are usually a good couple of amps so you can run quite a lot of it. And of course the yards & yards of wiring! If anybody wants to go down this route I will produce a very detailed How To post on LEDs if required, let me know. I have attached a couple of pictures of a my first QM2 which was a trial build and is now in the loft unfinished. The present one is just a hull at the moment and is about 6mths from completion! I cannot believe this thread!
Sailing men of war circa 1800 did not allow the use of lights below decks because of the risk of fire and there were strict regulations against it. The exception was lanterns in the stern cabins as shown in the excellent model that Zeptrader has shown us.
However, I think we really must draw a line when navigation lights are mentioned which only came into being with the advent of steam in the mid-19th century and making comparisons with modern cruise liners, no matter how good the model might be? Surely we want an authentic model of Victory at the time of Trafalgar or am I mistaken?

Russ, I doubt very much that this model will give us the chance to even come close to that sort of detail at the stern, but it does look good and my admiration to the chap that did this.

for me the only lighting i would do would be to enhance the guns below decks.for the cutaway...which would be a muted yellow to give a feel of realism...but as for anything else i don't know as we have not seen anything more about the model..

Mike T I'm setting fire to mine and applying mini incentiary devices to the base of the masts to send them crashing to the burning decks...

Hi Mates, When it comes to LED lights. (Forgive me, I'm really in the dark here, no pun intended),It looks as though you can't just connect an LED to a battery as in the case of a small bulb. I've heard talk of circuits and resistors etc. So can anyone enlighten me in this matter, because at the least, I'd like to illuminate the impressive stern lamps and any other external lamps that come with the ship parts. Cheers Bob

Cheers Bob If you read my earlier post you will see that I did mention that EACH LED needs a resistor, what ohm depends depends on the voltage you intend to use. have a look around the net on how to wire LEDs it is quite simple, but you have to be handy with a solder iron!! Hope you like this one! Here's a simple 7 LED circuit using 12vdc and 470 ohm resistors, Buy your LEDs on Ebay usually from China for the best price and free resistors, I do and never had a problem yet! Thanks for that Russ Question= if one led fails do they all go out if so is there away round this as its not going to be that easy to get at them once the build is finished also you have shown a 7 led circuit do we just add as needed or will this affect the voltage? Regards Allan
