Thanks everyone, appreciated...  .. Next stage was quite a lengthy one with lots to do, the fitting of the rails. Started with 4 strips 2 x 5mm, sanded smooth to remove any splinters. Then, using the shaping tool each strip had both edges shaped along their entire length, another fine sanding was then done. Painted the strips red and each strip had one edge painted yellow. This yellow is different from the hull yellow, its brighter...  . Starting at the stern glued strips along the tops of the bulwarks ensuring they overhung the gun ports slightly. The bow section was next. Took another strip and bent it to take the profile of the bow, used the shaping tool and painted the same way as previously done. Cut and glued the bow pieces into place. Took a 2 x 2mm strip and painted it red. Cut and placed small upright rail supports either side of the gun ports along the stern section, following the measurements given in the instructions. Another two strips, 2 x 5mm painted and shaped as before and given a slight bend to match the profile of the stern rails previously fitted. Using a fine sanding stick the edges of the gun ports were once again sanded and touched up with red paint. Following the measurements given in the instructions the top rail was then glued in place on top of the upright supports and left to dry. Cut and glued two small rail pieces into place to join the upper and lower stern rail together at the front of the rail. Once everything was dry the final part of this stage was to touch any areas with red and blue paint where necessary.... Stage 34 now complete so until next time happy modelling all.... Thanks Chris, appreciate you looking in and you comments... Stage 35 is another very short one, the fitting of the first deck baseboards along the edge of the bulwarks. Started by taking four 1 x 3mm strips and rounded off the top on one edge along their entire lengths, then sanded the strips smooth. Gave the strips two coats of medium oak stain and left to dry. Starting at the stern, cut a piece of strip and mitred the ends at a 45 degree angle and glued in place. Then fitted pieces along the length of the deck until we get to the tight bend at the bow, did the same on the other side. Took a strip and bent to match the curvature of the bow, when happy glued the pieces into place. This finished stage 35, next we finish off the capping at the bow so until then, happy modelling all..... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Thanks Phil, appreciate you looking in and your comments... .. This session has us finishing off the rail caps by fitting the final two at the bow. The kit provides two sets of lazer cut bow pieces, cut all from the fret and test fitted to ascertain the set that gives the best fit then cleaned up all the edges. Took a strip 1.5 x 1.5mm, this had to be sanded to give a size of 1 x 1mm. Strip was then bent to match the curvature of the bow pieces, both the inside and outside edges. Glued the strips in place so they matched the rest of the rail caps. The pieces were then painted and glued in position. Finally, touched up any surrounding paintwork. Thanks guys, appreciated..... .. This stage is a small stage, straight forward fitting of the second deck columns. Took a 2 x 2mm strip and painted it with our favourite red, cut two small strips to fit between the first and second decks. Then took offcuts of stained 1 x 3mm strip to make 2 small bases, touched up the cut ends with stain and glued to the bottom end of the columns. Once dried, sanded down the top of the columns until a good fit was achieved, glued in place ensuring they were set to the correct measurements and perfectly upright. In this session we fit the mouldings around the deck opening. Started with two 1 x 3mm strips, sanded all sides and edges to give a good finish. Using a different profile on the shaping tool shaped the mouldings, giving a fine sand when done. Moulding were then painted red and left to dry. Cut and test fitted the stern moulding making sure the ends were mitred at 45 degrees, glued into position making sure it was flush with the top of the deck. Once dried, continued to fit the moulding pieces to the other 3 sides. This ended stage 38 so until next time, happy modelling.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Thanks Mark and I agree with you. For anyone wishing to create decorative mouldings from wooden strips then these tools do the job very nicely. Having both sets in your tool box can only be considered an asset.. Will certainly come in handy to me for other builds..... Regards Alan

Thanks Gibbo, I think you'll find good uses for the shapers, remember there are actually 2 sets - 27300 and 27301... This one was another short stage, fitting fife rails into position. Fife rails are made from lazer cut ply, cut them free and made sure I didn't get them mixed up. Cleaned up the edges, test fitted and painted, again with red paint. Once happy, then glued into position. That finished stage 39, next stage is making up another hatch cover so until then, happy building all..... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Onwards we go.. Another short stage, the making up of another hatch cover.... From a 2 x 5mm strip, cut 5 equal lengths of 22.5mm and glued them edge to edge, left to dry. Sanded smooth and ensured the edges were square before cutting and gluing lengths of 1 x 3mm strips to form the frame. Painted the whole assembly red and left to dry. Blackened 4 eyelets and 4 rings, joined them together and cut the eyelet down to 2mm in length. Drilled four 1mm holes in the corner of the hatch cover and glued the eyelets in position. Then glued the whole assembly in place on the deck. That brought stage 40 to an end so until next time, happy modelling.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Thanks guys, appreciate you looking in as always.. .. This stage has to be classed as the most tedious and fiddly stages of the build to date, just happy now it is done and I can once again move on. Here we worked on the pins that go into the fife rails. Started with lengths of 0.8mm brass rod cut to 7mm lengths, a total of 80 pins in all had to be cut. The cut ends of the lengths were then cleaned up with a file. These lengths were then glued into the holes in the fife rails taking note that some of the holes in the bow sections had to be left free. Pins had to protrude the tops of the fife rails by 3.5mm at the bow section and 2.5mm for the rest. Once glue had dried next task was to give the pins a coat of metal primer and finished off by painting them with wood colour paint and left to dry and finally touching up the rails with red. That thankfully, brought an end to stage 41 and the next stage is making up more gun carriages. So until next time, happy building all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):
