In F1 racing terms its the same except the bit that blocks your view.

Wouldn`t be allowed in a road car I`m sure.

You have to agree they do look ugly and spoil the lines of the car!
But driver safety is paramount. I just wonder how many instances there have been of debris hitting the driver (i assumed they meant tyre? But could be anything really). If they fitted a full canopy then HALO would become redundant.
