Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. I hope everyone is safe and warm while bedlam reigns outside. This weeks update of my U230 U-boat build log is all about weathering powders. Earlier in the week I ordered four weathering powders; white [for salt streaks], black [for exhaust soot], rust, smoke and two sponge brushes. The attached photo shows the weathering powders. What I've found while working on a model this size, especially when applying washes and powders, is that subtlety is key. Less is more. The attached photo shows the white weathering powder being applied with the sponge brush. I would apply very thin random streaks, until the sponge brush was dry, then rub over these streaks to break up their edges and blend the white into the hull. That concludes this weeks update. Next week I will do a last check of all paintwork before sealing it with matt varnish spray. Then it's onto the mahogany planking of the casing.
