Part 2 and just about done for a while. I had a stop for a period while I was waiting for some paint to arrive so it was a good opportunity to go into barge production. Also had a delay while I returned to the UK on personal business so quite a way behind target but, have just about reached my milestone of two thirds through now.

BARGES

It has be quite a few years since I completed the first of the ships boats back at issue 5 and it’s amazing how much easier it seems from doing then as a raw novice. Took extra care over the Admirals barge of course and liked the difference in colour with that one. Using the spray gun now gave a nice smooth finish especially after using lots of coats, which I could never achieve with a brush.

Here are the barges which now go into store for a while.

And here’s the lady herself, splendid as ever despite my meagre efforts.

PAINTING THE HULL AND THE GUN PORTS

Another longish job. Since I used a spray gun a lot of yellow got into the ports which meant I had to give every port a blast with black spray. I never worked out how to avoid that and so had to bite the bullet on that one. Then used my trusty emery board (used for ladies nails) to clean the insides of the ports and also to sharpen up the edges where the yellow ochre had settled a little thick. Then with the ship upside down, I painted the tops and sides to get me into the swing of not letting the paint run on to the stripes on the outside. I was looking forward to this stage as it gave the ship a little more colour. Still a bit more touching up to do but almost there and ready to move on.

Lots of problems during the painting stage and as always, it would be a lot different if I could start over.

REAR GALLERY

Thought I could finish this stage but I ran out of time especially as I had to get the plank bending brain in gear again. It is all nicely taking shape now though.

Here are a few more odds and sods.

So that’s it for a while now . Back to the UK for 2 months so work will resume in May. I have done something on the ship almost every day for about 6 weeks now so I will miss her. Still, can always look in to the build diaries while I’m away, I guess

Thanks for the message Garth.

Yes, I got distracted with some real sailing and other exams plus a summer school next week, so will start to catch up after that hopefully.

Quick question before signing off for the year. I notice in the instructions we were due to receive 170 balusters and indeed I have 169 and a broken one. According to my figures though, we will only use 129 for the stern gallery.

Have I made an arithmetic error here or will the extras be used elsewhere or did we simply receive too many?

Many thanks.
