Stage 40

Monobrake

Parts supplied:
Front details 1+2, Lights 1+2, Engine, Monorail runner, Cockpit, Main body.

The silver monorail runner is glued in position on top of the main body with an overhang at the rear.

Take the four wheel/axle sets assembled in stage 39 and position them in the slots on the main body’s underside. Now seal these in with the Monobrake’s chassis lower plate gluing it via the mounting posts. Now pull a track over the wheels on each side making sure the tracks are seated neatly over the wheels.

Stage 41

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Drive shaft (long)x2, Drive shaft (short).

Position one of the longer drive shafts into the front- left side of the underframe. Its metal length will sit on the tabs and its gear head’s teeth will engage with those of the front-left crown gear. (The shaft should fit neatly into the space below the leg base but should not touch or be obstructed by it). Now fit the shaft’s rear gear head to engage with the lower section of the rear-left pinion gear making sure the front gear stays engaged too.

Now fit the other long drive shaft to the corresponding space on the front-right side of the underframe making sure it sits neatly in the space below the front-right leg base and that both its gear heads are engaged with their respective gears properly.

Finally take the short drive shaft and lower it onto its tabs at the rear-right side of the underframe. Fit the shaft into the space beneath the rear-right leg base engaging its gear heads with the right-side pinion gear and the right-rear crown gear. Check again that all the gears fitted in this stage are engaged properly.

Stage 41

Monobrake

Parts supplied:
Nozzle, Power unit, Fuel tank, Windscreen, Intake cover, Cockpit hood.

Glue the fuel tank to the top of your Monobrake base from stage 40. Then glue the cockpit hood infront of the fuel tank.

Take the engine supplied in stage 40 and noting its profile glue it to the power unit. Fit the nozzle into the rear of the power unit and then the intake cover on the top with its circled pin facing backwards. The completed power unit assembly is then fixed in place on top of the Monobrake via the three pins on its underside.

Finally fix the windscreen into the slot at the front.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 42

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Gear box, Fixing screws x5

The gearbox sits in place at the rear of the underframe with its gear shaft sticking out to the right. Its four corner tabs will sit onto the four mounting posts.

Remove the rear bulkhead B then lower the gearbox into position making sure the gear head is engaging with the right-rear crown gear. Making sure the gears are properly engaged and tighten a screw into the front-left tab/ post but do not fully tighten this screw yet. Now lightly tighten the screw at the opposite corner (rear right). Fit the other screws, then tighten each fully. (This will ensure the gearbox remains level as each screw applies pressure.)

Take the bulkhead B removed earlier and lower it into its slot neatly sealing off the gearbox.

Stage 42

Laser Cutter

Parts supplied:
Cockpit, Light, Laser barrel, Body, Cockpit interior, Nozzle, Canopy, Side detail L+R, Turret, Chassis, Tracks x2.

Slot and glue the tracks into the sides of the chassis making sure the parts stay flush with the chassis.

Glue the cockpit interior to the cockpit and then glue the canopy over it. Next identify the L and R marks on the side details and fit them to each side of the cockpit. Then glue the turret into its slot on the front of the cockpit. The laser barrel will fit into the turret through its underside. Do not glue these parts. The pins on either side of the laser’s base will fit into the slots in the turret, so the laser shaft can swing up and down. Now whilst holding the laser in place, join the cockpit/turret assembly to the body.

Next add the chassis underneath the body making sure the end with the detailing is at the front and check the parts are secure. Finally fit the light to the front of the cockpit and the nozzle to the right of the laser.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 43

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Motor unit, Crown gears x2, Fixing screws x4.

The motor unit will sit on its mounting posts at the front end of the underframe.
Remove bulkhead A from the lower front frame. Lower the motor unit onto the posts guiding the gear heads on either side onto the front crown gears previously fitted to the underframe and make sure all the gears teeth engage.

Turn a screw lightly through the front-left tab. Then do the same for the right hand tab and then fit a screw next to the first. Go back and tighten each screw fully in order to ensure an even fix.

Now place a crown gear supplied with this stage onto the left front gear pin with the teeth facing downwards. This will combine the motor unit’s left gear, the left-side drive shaft’s gear and the front-left crown gear. Make sure all the gears are engaged properly and aligned correctly. Repeat this for the right side of the assembly.

Now both sets of gears are in position double check that all the gears’ teeth are properly engaged, and none are misaligned or ‘floating’ away from its join.

Finally replace the bulkhead A supplied in Stage 9.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag. .

Stage 44

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Side rail L, Pins x2, Upper limit switch, Fixing screws x7

Unscrew the front-left rail gear rack from its spring and then do the same for the rear-left rack. Lower the slide rail over the left-sided springs (Its contour will match that of the underframe). Bring the slide rail to rest onto the six mounting posts. The pin at the top of the pinion gear should fit neatly into the slide rail’s hole.

Tighten a screw into the front hole and the the back one. Then repeat for all the remaining holes. The slide rail is in place and its fine that the rear leg spring is tilted forward.

Now reattach the rack marked L2 to the front leg spring and the rack marked L1 to the rear leg spring. Use tweezers to place one of the pins into the slot by the front leg spring making sure the pin is seated perfectly inside the slot. Then place the other pin into the slot by the rear spring again checking it is securely seated.

Finally take the upper limit switch and fit it via the two pins on the rear of the slide rail making sure the orientation is correct Do not glue the parts.

Side rail R, Pins x2, Lower limit switch, Fixing screws x7.

Unscrew the front-right rail gear rack from its spring and then do the same for the rear-right rack. Lower the slide rail over the right-sided springs. (Its contour will match that of the underframe). Bring the slide rail to rest onto the six mounting posts. The pin at the top of the front pinion gear should fit neatly into the slide rail’s forward hole. The right side also has a rear pinion gear, which should fit neatly into the slide rail’s rear hole.

Tighten a screw into the front hole and then the back one. Then repeat for all the remaining holes. The slide rail is in place and it is fine that the rear leg spring is tilted forward.

Now reattach the rack marked R2 to the front leg spring and the rack marked R1 to the rear leg spring. Use tweezers to place one of the pins into this slot, by the front leg spring making sure the pin is seated perfectly inside the slot. Then place the other pin into the slot by the rear spring again checking it is securely seated.
