Thanks Alan! Cool

Although that's not how it will look when finished.

All of the casing, including the planking, will be painted in a very dark grey, almost black in colour. In reality this paint was akin to a bitumen type formula, a preservative, to protect the wood by the ravages of the sea and also had anti-skid characteristics.

Once painted I will weather and gently sand areas of the planking to reveal the grain.

Lovely work as always Phil, seems a shame to have to eventually cover all of that wood with paint but it has to be done correctly.

Thanks Kev! Cool

I'm only going to add a wash over the decking and then gently rub back with fine glass paper to bring out the grain, so all is not lost. The colour will change, but the look remains the same.

Good evening from 'The Dockyard'.

This weeks update of my U230 U-boat build sees the completion of the mahogany planking on the forward section of the casing.

The attached photo shows one of the mahogany planks being cut.

The attached photo shows the nearest plank being weighed down while the adhesive sets.

I used PVA glue applied to the underside of the plank, wiping away excess before positioning. Some of the longer sections required some weight to hold them down.
