Recently I bought some pva glue and I decided to go with Gorrilla pva, Earlier on in the day though I had seen some pva in a pound shop. This got me thinking, is glue just glue generic, or does buying a reputable brand really make a difference, what do you guys think

An ENORMOUS difference.
Cheapo £1 shop glues are pretty much useless. PVA particularly, as it's watered down massively. You can tell as soon as you squirt some out.
Cheapo Cyano is very variable. Some are garbage, but some are as good as the big names. HILKA is in 20g bottles (a good size) and costs £1.20 in our local hardware. Brilliant stuff.
Same with contact adhesives and epoxies. Very variable.
It's all a case of try it and see which works for you.

A reputable or recommended brand is always the way to go which in terms of PVA and wooden model building, you can’t beat an Aliphatic wood glue. Great strength, sanding quality and accepts stain, also waterproof when set.
Same with Superglue, lots of the cheap brands are poor quality and have short tube/bottle life and also poor long term bonding as it can become brittle and lose hold.
With glue, you generally get what you pay for

I have to agree cheap is costly. I buy trusted brands i have worked with and use different adhesives for different jobs “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain
