Next step was to build those buckets.

Again I formed the bucket handles out of brass wire and glued them onto the buckets. If i remember right those buckets also were an enhancement of Mike`s.

I then painted the buckets black and then tired to paint those yellow crowns and letters.

I know - it is not a great paintjob - but it was the best i could achieve.

Hi Walter,

What is the size (height) of the buckets with/without handles?
I love this addition, I might do it too.

Thx
Laszlo
Happy building!

Hi Walter,

Superb job on the hammock nets.
Is there a special reason why you used light coloured net, instead of the black which provided with the kit?
Is the net cream/natural coloured on the real ship?
Happy building!
Laszlo

Thanks for your nice comments, guys!

@ Laszlo: At least nowadays the hammock nets are of light colour - so i went for that look. Also i like the contrast of the lighter nets on the black cap strips.
Third i had the feeling that the mesh of the provided black nets looks a little bit too tight or small (or whatever the english word is for that :) ).
Greetings,
Walter

Hi Walter,
I had another look on the official build diary and your pictures regarding of the hammock netting colour to decide which way I want to go. I actually found, as you found it too, that the cream colour looks much better.
I also love your solution, how you knotted the netting to the rope with tiny black knots instead of the "wrapping" method advised by the magazine.
If you don't mind I'll copy your solution. Cool
Where did you get the cream colour netting?
I had a look on Cornwall Model Boats website and they only have black and white. Actually I found cream coloured absolutely nowhere in the UK. Or maybe I just wasn't patient enough. BigGrin
Probably I'll buy a sheet of the white one to see how white is it. LOL

Regarding my earlier question about the bucket size...
I had a look on your pictures again, and I also found those buckets on CMB website but I don't quite like the shape of them.
For me they are too narrow at the top compared to the bottom (only tiny difference on diameter), the wall thickness seemed too large, even if I understand the limitation to produce them in this scale, also the method how the handles could be fitted does not make them look realistic for me.

Hence I asked one of my friends who has a 3D printer and he printed to me couple of buckets in 5mm and 4mm height to check which one would "look right" on the model.
The attached picture shows the 5mm buckets, and they have two "bindings" (like the barrels), but I'll go for the 4mm buckets, they look better to the scale.
Also the binding won't be on them because I realized that they would make the painting of the letters/crown very difficult.
For the handles I'll drill tiny holes on the sides and use brass wire for it.

Hi Laszlo,

i bought the net in an ordinary fabric store.

By the way i finally can tell you the measurements of my buckets (sorry it took so long). They are 5mm of height - with the handles 8,5 mm.

Greetings,
Walter

Hi guys,

i have to admit that i don`t have much time for modelling at the moment due to family- and work reasons.

So it´s a very slow process right now.

I did some first experiments with the gunport-lids. I use the smallest PE-eyebolts i could find to attach the opening-ropes to.

So far i finished the two closed ports at the bow and one opened lid.
