Why are all encouraged to feel ashamed of our History. Yes in the past we did as the British Empire do some things that today would be considered wrong. But it needs pointing out that so did many other countries too, and it needs putting in context of that period of history when it was not considered an offence. But we learned and changed our laws. I'm sick of this minority trying to speak for the rest of us.

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO Why are we the only country that seems ashamed of our heritage and history? . We are a proud nation and should be justifiably proud of our heritage. It has made us who we are! Easter no longer a religous festival, and neither is Christmas! What are we becoming?

It’s never going to happen, but what should happen is that the board of Historic England be given the boot if this is an example of their idea of “Historic England”

What's really ironic is that black crew members were treated with absolute equality in Nelson's navy and that any escaping slave managing to get aboard a British warship was automatically freed on the spot. Even on Nelson's column, the bronze plaque shows a negro sailor pointing up at the French sniper who had just shot Nelson. Yes we did play a large part in the slave trade (as did everyone else who could get involved) but we played an even bigger part as the first nation who outlawed slavery AND used the world's largest navy to eradicate it across the world's oceans! Truth be known, they could most probably dig up some dirt on every person who has a statue erected in their memory. That will keep them busy having their "DISCUSSIONS". Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
