Hi I am building hms surprise as a part work and have come across an instruction to stain some of the parts with mineral pitch and solvent mix Can anyone clarify exactly what this comprises in buyable terms ? I can find no other reference anywhere and would like to keep to the instructions as far as possible

Hi Steve, If you are leaving it bare un painted then use a dark wood stain from ronseal, no need to thin it down. If your painting her then its Admiralty paints Yellow ochre and Satin Black. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Hi again , Thanks for the replies I am painting the hull with admiralty paints , ocre and a dull black left over from sots build , so I guess it will be dull black with a red detail I have watched the movie about 5 times over the years and have a copy ,but everything just looks very dark and worn I suppose it should be navy colours of the time, a la victory .
