Stage 9 Contents: Hull Frame Bottom, Hull Frame Sides, Reinforcements, Eyebolts, Brackets, Carriage Parts, Metal Rod and Cannon.

Remove the hull frames and reinforcements parts from their frets and sand their edges smooth. Glue the frame 15 sides to the frame 15 bottom and leave to dry, ensuring the frame dries flat. Test fit and glue frame 15 into the last available slot in the false keel, ensuring that it dries at a right angle to the false keel.

Test fit one of the reinforcements D4 onto the false keel and frames 10-14. The reinforcement should fit flush with the reinforcement in front of it and sit halfway across the false keel and frame 14. Make any adjustments necessary to achieve this fit and then glue the piece into place. Fit the second reinforcement D4 on the port side of the hull. When the correct fit has been achieved then glue the reinforcement into position.

Separate the carriage components from the wooden fret and smooth their edges. Paint the four pieces black (RAL 9004) and leave to dry. Glue the carriage right side to the cannon base then glue the crosspiece to the base and the cannon right side, positioning it 2mm from the front edge of the base. Glue the carriage left side to the other side of the base.

Separate the wheels from the fret then smooth the edges, paint the wheels black (RAL 9004). Remove any flash or burrs from the cannon, apply a coat of metal primer and leave it to dry. Paint the barrel with a bronze colour (No RAL Code).

Stage 11 Contents: Hull Frame Sides, Hull Frame Bottoms, Reinforcements and Decoration.

Separate the wooden parts from their frets and sand their edges smooth. Test fit and glue hull frame 17 sides to the frame 17 bottom, leave to dry and ensure it dries perfectly flat. Glue hull frame 17 into the next available slot in the false keel, making sure that frame 17 dries at a right angle to the false keel and that the tops of both parts are flush.

Assemble hull frame 18 in the same way as previous frames. Now test fit and glue hull frame 18 into the next slot in the false keel, making sure it dries at a right angle to the false keel and that the tops of both parts are flush.

Remove any flash or burrs from the casting received with this stage. Apply a coat of metal primer to the pieces and leave to dry. Follow the painting guide provided within the instructions to paint the decoration supplied with this stage then store carefully until needed.

Caution: The very top of the stern keel section is very fragile and easily broken. I chose to fill the slot with a scrap piece of wood to give it some support, it is not glued in place.

Remove the wooden parts from their frets and smooth their edges, then glue the frame 19 sides to the frame bottom and leave to dry. Test fit and glue frame 19 into the next slot in the false keel, making sure that frame 19 dries at a right angle to the false keel and that the tops are flush.

Test fit one of the reinforcements 'D5' with frames 14 to 19 and the false keel. The reinforcement should rest halfway across frame 14 and the false keel and the slots should engage with the rest of the frames. Adjust the fit if you need to and then glue into place. Test fit the second reinforcement 'D5' to the port side of the hull. Make any necessary adjustments and then glue the reinforcement into place.

Now retrieve the two reinforcements 'P3' from Stage 11. Test fit one of the reinforcements in the notches on the inside of frames 10-15. Make any adjustments to the reinforcement to achieve the correct fit and then glue it into place. Now test fit the second reinforcement 'P3' into the slots in the same frames on the other side of the hull. Make any necessary adjustments and then glue the reinforcement into place.

Remove any flash or burrs from the casting received with this stage. Apply a coat of metal primer to the pieces and leave to dry. Follow the painting guide provided within the instructions to paint the decoration supplied with this stage then store carefully until needed.

Stage 14 Contents: Uprights, Hull Frame, Supports and Reinforcement.

Remove the wooden parts from their frets and sand their edges smooth. Test fit and glue reinforcement 21 into the slots along the centre of frame 20. Make sure that the reinforcement dries at 90 degrees to both the false keel and frame 20. Take one of the uprights 22, test fit and glue it into hull frame 20 and reinforcement 21. Check that it dries at a right angle to both. Test fit and glue the second upright 22 to the port side of the frame and reinforcement.

Test fit and glue the central upright 20f into the slot in the centre of hull frame 20. The bottom of the part should rest on the false keel. Ensure that upright 20f is vertically aligned with the false keel as it dries.

Test fit and glue one of the supports 23 into reinforcement 21 and upright 22 then take a support 23a and glue it between reinforcements 20d and 21, directly below support 23. Check that supports 23 and 23a are inserted firmly into parts 20d, 21 and 22 and that they are perfectly aligned with each other. Fit the second supports 23 and 23a on the other side of the hull in the same way.

Test fit and glue frame 24 into the slots in parts 22 and 20f. Make sure that frame 24 dries at a right angle to the tops of uprights 22.

Stage complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 15 Contents: Uprights, Transom Parts, Support, Reinforcements and Decoration.

Remove the wooden parts from their frets and smooth their edges. Glue upright 25 from Stage 14 into the notch in support 26, ensuring they dry at a right angle to each other. Glue upright 25 into the slot in the centre of hull frame 24, aligning it with 20f. Do not glue support 26.

Take one of the two uprights 27 and glue it to parts 21, 23, 23a and 24. To fix the upright to 23 and 23a, it is necessary to bend the parts slightly. Parts 26 and 27 will be joined together at a later stage. Fit the other upright 27 to the starboard side of parts 21, 23, 23a and 24 in the same way as done previously.

For this next part you may be want to dampen part 26, because this will make it easier to bend. Using clamps or tape, pull the outer edges of part 26 down to the tops of parts 27. Leave part 26 to dry and only proceed when the curve remains without clamps. Apply glue to the contact areas between parts 27 and 26. Now test fit the two reinforcements 29 on the inside of parts 27 and to the bottom of 26. The aft edges of the reinforcements should match those of parts 27. Adjust the fit if they don't and then glue them into place.

Test fit and glue one of the uprights 28 to the port side of parts 24, 26 and 27. Repeat on the starboard side with the second upright 28. Glue the reinforcements 30 and 31 into the slots of parts 25 and 28. The upper edges of reinforcements 30 and 31 should be flush with 24. Test fit the upper part of the transom 32 onto the tabs of uprights 28 and the aft of 25. You will need to bend the transom 32 slightly to fit before gluing it into place. Do this in the same way as you fitted part 26.

Glue the central part of the transom 33 to uprights 28 and 25 and to the bottom of 32. Finally, test fit and glue the lower part of the transom 34 to parts 25, 26 and 28, below 33. There should be a gap between parts 33 and 34.

Stage complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 16 Contents: Bow Reinforcements, Reinforcements, Cross Braces and Decoration.

Remove the wooden parts from their frets and smooth their edges. Test fit and glue one of the 2d reinforcements into the grooves of 2a and 2b at the bow. Test fit and glue the second reinforcement 2d into 2b and 2a on the starboard side.

Soak the front ends of the two reinforcements P5, then bend them both. Take a reinforcement P5 and test fit it to frames 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8, on top of D2, P1 and P2 on the starboard side of the hull. The front end has to fit up against the inside of 2a, bend the reinforcement more if necessary then glue into place. Check that the starboard sides of frames 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 are perfectly parallel to each other.

Test fit and glue the second reinforcement P5 to frames 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and D2, P1 and P2 on the port side of the hull, up against the inside of 2a. Check that frames 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 are parallel to each other on the port side.

Test fit cross brace 36 in the front slots in the reinforcements P5, then glue it into place. Now test fit and glue cross brace 35 into the second slots in the reinforcements.

Remove any flash or burrs from the casting received with this stage. Apply a coat of metal primer to the piece and leave to dry. Follow the painting guide provided within the instructions to paint the decoration supplied with this stage then store carefully until needed.

All painted decorations for pack 2 will be shown at the end of the pack

Stage complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.
