The International Bomber Command Centre official opening ceremony is coming soon.

The centre will be closed to the public from 10th - 13th April prior to the official opening.

I'll let you know what it is like as we are visiting this weekend as it is somewhere my Husband wants to visit.

Plus a detour to see the Tank statue over near the University.

Weather permitting, the BBMF Lancaster bomber is due to overfly the venue today to mark its formal opening.

Interestingly, the memorial spire is 102ft (31.09m) high, the wingspan of the Avro Lancaster Bomber and is 16ft (5m) wide at the base, the width of a Lancaster wing.

Well the weather made this a must visit day. BigGrin

As promised the good lady and I made a visit to the IBCC and it was a trip worth making.

The centre consists of a main building with a small but very worthwhile visiting exhibition centre, cafe and shop. Then there are the peace gardens with the huge memorial and walls of remembrance.

The exhibition consists of artefacts, original video footage and then on the second floor information on the "Home front".

The peace garden has the memorial and walls of remembrance that list the names of every person who lost their lives serving Bomber Command.

I have only included one item (two pics) from the exhibition as most is video/reading information.

Pictures attached are as follows:

The centre from the peace garden

The memorial from the centre

The memorial base

Three pictures approaching the memorial walls of remembrance

Two pictures looking from the memorial across the city of Lincoln to the Cathedral.

Two pictures of the Knights of the skies

Please take a few seconds to read the info on the "Knights of the skies" to see the relevance and understand the story behind the lovely artwork.

Here is a link to the IBCC website:
