The Terror, a 10-episode series that blends historical fact with chilling fiction.

The story is based on the real-life expedition overseen by Sir John Franklin, a British Naval Officer who led two ships -- the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror to try and discover a route through the treacherous Northwest Passage in 1845.

After the two ships became trapped in the ice, they and the 129 crew members aboard were never seen again, until 2014, when the wreckage of the Erebus was discovered off the coast of King William Island, with the Terror discovered two years later.

What happened to the crew has been the subject of intense speculation for many years (evidence tells us that there was at least some cannibalism), it combines human arrogance and the punishing arctic conditions with a more supernatural foe, locking the sailors in a desperate fight for survival in one of the most inhospitable places on earth.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l328p5sSEmc

The Terror premieres on AMC.

I read about this voyage.Amundsen (the first man to the south pole) retraced Franklins journey but he was successful in navigating the northwest passage.he met with some inuit that talked about a bunch of white men that had made camp after their ship was stuck in the ice and they all died.

if you like this kind of story there are 2 other shows worth watching .They are both on youtube.

The first is called "the worst journey in the world". This is Apsley Cherry Garrards account of the mission he and wilson and Bowers undertook in Antarctica. They were part of Scots polar party and they made a journey in the winter from Scots winter camp to a nesting site for Penguins to get some penguin eggs. They made the journey in winter in complete darkness and it was a nightmare journey and they almost died. The mini series is very good and follows the book closely.

The second is a mini series about Scot and Amundsens race to the south pole .It was made in 1985 and stars Martin Shaw as Scot.It is an excellent series that goes into a lot of detail about the exploration of the south pole.It is a bit controversial because it is based on a book that was quite critical of Scot.Until then Scot has been portrayed as a brave hero-just look at the movie Scot of the Antarctic with John Mills playing Scot.
it is called "the last place on earth".

If you want to see some actual movie footage of Scots expedition Herbert Ponting made a kind of documentary called 90 degrees south which is very good and also on youtube

The Terror arrived a few days ago. Thought I'd post some pics. It seems a nice kit. First impressions are good. Nice quality materials, plenty of them, some nice photo etch and the instructions are very detailed with nice large colour step by step images.

I will start a build log as soon as I get going. Just got to build a small jig for it first.
