U S S Constitution Pack 8- Stages 71-80
Stage 71 contents:- Gun port lids, cannon, carriage, wedge, dummy guns and ramin strip.
Take the four 1 x 11 x 300 ramin strips from stage 54 at this stage you can paint them white or paint them after they are cut to size between the lower gun ports. Measure the gap between the last two lower gun ports and then cut the ramin strip to fit, paint it white if you have not already done so and glue it in place, continue to measure and cut the ramin strip working forward to the bow.
When you reach the last gun port cut another piece of ramin that is 23 mm long and fix it forward of the gun port. Now measure and mark a line 15 mm forward of the last strip laid then shape and fit the last strip forward to the bow and fix it in place. Using the remaining ramin strip do the same to the other side of the hull.
Next take the rudder and place it next to the stern post and mark a line on the rudder where the black paint intersects with it. Paint above the line with your chosen black paint. Now take the Brass rod supplied with stage 57 and cut five 6 mm long pieces. Insert the rods into the hinges fitted to the rudder and glue them in place.
Retrieve the five hinges supplied with stage 64 and hook them over the rods just glued in place. Offer up the rudder assembly to the stern post and then fix the hinges to the hull by drilling holes and fixing nails through the holes. Continue until both sides are fixed to the hull.

Stage 72
Stage 72 contents:- Gun port lids, carriage, cannon, wedge, dummy guns and walnut strip.
Take the cannon parts from the previous stage and this stage and paint the carriage body's red and the wheels black. When dry glue the cannons in place and then add a wedge to each carriage.
Next take a gun port fret and remove three sets of gun ports, sand them smooth and then paint them black. When dry glue them onto the three lower holes in the transom making sure the bottom edge of the gun ports are at least 16mm above the transom bottom edge.
Now take two strips of 2x2x300 ramin, you can paint them before or after measuring to size and then gluing them in place, fit the first strip along the bottom edge of the transom and the second strip 11mm above the 1st. From stage 64 take the transom detailing fret and remove the part, smooth it and then paint it white. Glue the part above the second strip just fixed and the top in line with the upper three transom gun ports.

Stage 73
Stage 73 contents:- Gun port lids, carronade parts, dummy guns and brass wire.
Take the brass wire straighten it and then polish it with a scouring pad. Cut five lengths of wire at 63mm and one of 126mm. Bend the wire to shape so you should have five curved right angles and a 'U' shaped piece. For the next part I found it better to mark the wire with the heights and widths needed and trimmed each wire to fit. Firstly drill seven 6mm holes around the starboard midships ladder three evenly spaced along the sides and rear of the ladder hatch opening.
Next fit the 'U' shaped wire in position in a diagonal from corner to corner make sure it is positioned at the right height and then glue the five other wires trimming each one to fit until you have a complete cage. Cut six more pieces of wire that fit along the sides and rear of the cage to form the rails.
Take the carronade supplied with this stage and the two saved from previous stages and make all three up as described in previous stages.

Stage 74
Stage 74 contents:- Parts fret, columns, pins, deadeyes and ramin strip.
Remove the two mast collars from the fret, sand them smooth and then line them up and glue them together. Stain the assembly and when dry glue the collar over the mizzenmast hole making sure to line up the holes with the part and the tail faces the stern.
Next take the 2 x 4 x 300 ramin strip and mark a line at 8mm from the end then two more lines 3mm apart, next mark a line at 6mm past the last line then another two lines 3mm apart. Mark another line 6mm from the last one drawn and add two more lines 3mm apart . Last of all mark a line 8mm past the last line.
Use a 1.5mm drill to drill out the 9 holes marked and then remove the part made by cutting through the last line marked. Smooth off the rail just made and round off the two ends.
Next take the 4 x 4 x 300 ramin strip and cut four 6mm long blocks off it then glue four of the columns to the blocks. Now glue the pillars you have just created onto the gaps between the holes, two at each end and the other two on the 6mm wide gaps on the rail.

Stage 75
Stage 75 contents:- Gun port lids, carronade parts, dummy guns and blocks.
Cut two 32mm lengths off a strip of 2 x 4 x 300 ramin amd then starting at one end mark a line at 5mm then six more lines 3mm apart, this should leave 9mm left at the other end now drill a 1.5mm hole in the centre of the seven marked holes. At the 9mm end round it off and smooth the rest of the part, now make another the same.
Take rail you made in the previous stage and mark a line at 7mm in from one end, do the same for the other end. Take the parts you just made and glue them to the rail at right angles making sure the outer edge lines up with the 7mm mark.
Next cut two 22mm long pieces from a 4 x 4 x 300mm strip of ramin mark a line 15mm along from one end and then cut a 2 x 2 mm recess into both. Now drill a hole near the top of the post and add a 7mm long piece of brass to each hole so it sticks out equally each side. Mark a line 6mm up from the post bottom and then cut a 1mm groove 5mm long on each side. Drill a 1mm hole at the top and bottom of the groove.
Take the two posts and add them to the ends of the two parts just glued to the rail the should be placed on the 9mm section just forward of the last hole in the part. Stain the assembled fife rail with your chosen colour and then paint the top off the two posts white and when dry clear coat the part.
Glue the assembled fife rail around the mizzen mast collar so that the rail end is next to the tail of the collar.

Stage 76
Stage 76 contents:- Parts fret, bell, columns, pins, double blocks, blocks and ramin strip.
Take a 2 x 4 x 300 ramin strip and mark twelve sections at 25mm length. Then using a 1.5mm bit drill 6 holes in each section. Cut the 12 sections off the strip and round the corners on one side then stain and clear coat them.
Starting at the stern glue a rail between the last three cannon ports and then the next one with its rear edge in line with cannon port four. The next three rails are glued between the next four gun ports making six glued in position on that side, place the remaining six rails in the same way on the other side of the hull.
Make another eight rails four at 25mm length, two more at 38mm and the last two at 5mm long. Prepare the four 25mm rails as before with six holes drilled in each, the 38mm will have nine holes and the 5mm just one hole each. Stain and clear coat the prepared rails like you did before. Take the 38mm rail and glue it forward of the block in front of the central oblong hole in the balwark . Next place two 25mm rails between the next three cannon ports and lastly on this side a 5mm rail. Glue the remaining rails onto the other side of the hull.
Cut four lengths of 2 x 4 x 300 ramin 25mm long and glue two together so you now have two pieces 8 x 25mm long. Shape and drill the rails so they fit under the bow and then glue them in place.

Stage 79
Stage 79 contents:- Port gallery, deadeyes and columns.
Take the port quarter gallery and test fit it on the port side of the hull, then remove any burrs from the casting. If necessary shape the gallery to fit the shape of the hull. Retrieve the saved piece of 1 x 11 x 300 strip and place it in line with the other pieces already applied. Place the gallery over it and then mark the profile of the gallery onto the strip.
Next you can paint the gallery then fix it in position or do as I have done where you fix it in place then use filler to fill any gaps and then paint the gallery black. Once the black paint is dry use white paint on the window frames and trim.
Cut the profile you marked earlier out of the strip and then shape it to fit the quarter gallery. When it fits the gallery cut the other end off to line up with the gunport edge then glue the strip in place.
