Many thanks chaps. Back on the engine for a while as paint on the body is prepped. This car has a Lucas fuel injection system for which there are no 1/8 scale parts out there. Scratch time again... I Googled lots of reference and ended up casting assorted parts in resin and using whatever I could find to make other bits. There is still a lot of linkages to add and I have tested that the whole caboodle fits in the engine frame. So far so good... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Many thanks for the comments chaps. I've spent the past umpteen days painting the body. sanding with 800 grit, a layer of paint. Sand 800, paint, 800, paint... And so on. So far, literally 15-20 coats of primer and top coat. Last coats have been 1200 grit sanded and a last coat of Old English white. Leave it now for a while and just polish. I won't add a clear coat this time as it's shiny enough, even without a polish. Remember, these cars were never as wet-look as modern vehicles. I'll get back on with the main shell and front end next. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Thanks Gray.
Each coat was actually very light - almost a passing coat. It was then sanded, and very slowly a decent layer of paint was built as smooth as the proverbial babies tail end... The final coat was the flood coat. All over to give a complete wet look. That coat is always the scary one as the paint is on the very edge of getting runs in it.

I'm in two minds about polishing the paint. It's got a nice even shine but isn't wet-look. I keep thinking about my friends Cunningham car that I modelled a few years ago. Lovely old 'shine' to the paint but not glossy. I'll leave it a while anyway. The boot lid fits and the hinges work. A bit of the interior has been splodged with matt black so that when the carpet goes down (this car had carpet) and the sills are trimmed, any little gaps shouldn't notice. Front firewall detailing next. Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

The door sills have been covered in leather which was fairly easy. Paper templates made and carpet pieces cut out. The carpet is self adhesive and was a bit of a pain to get into the foot-wells nice and correctly. However, now done. It will all need weathering down later on as the real car wasn't restored, just refurbished, keeping as much of the original as possible. Front firewall next. Thanks for the kind words chaps. I've made a start on the firewall today. First off, I scratched the air intake as the race cars don't have the big heater and fan assembly the road cars have. Next, the front was weathered down. As already said, this car was never restored. It is very much original, but now fully road and race worthy. The wiper motor has been foiled but needs darkening down considerably. The linkage rod was also made and added. The kit wash bottle is quite accurate but there's no pump inside which is noticeable. The pump was scratched and then everything assembled and painted. Wiring was added. The master cylinder was scratched and fitted and then the clutch and brake pipes fitted according to reference pictures I have. The open ends will be connected to the reservoirs. Relays, regulator and the start of some wiring will be next... Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):
