Hello Everyone, Finished the other "ship", now back on track on the Victory. Issue 79: - Belfry frame assembled and painted - Belfry top and die cast parts sprayed primer & black - Belfry assembled and fitted to the deck Issue 80: - Die cast parts fitted on the sides of the belfry - Pin rails assembled, painted and fitted. CAUTION: If you haven't done it yet, be very careful with the L-shaped parts, they are snapping very-very easily. I snapped two of them only by touching them. Fixed with glue. - Eyelets fitted around mizzen mast hole - Poop deck handrail assembled, painted and fitted Issue 81: - Poop deck pin rail assembled, painted and fitted - Bulwark fittings added - Pulleys painted, assembled and fitted - Mizzen mast collar assembled and shaped, will be painted when fitted later on gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hello All, Issue 82 finished: - Similar to the port side, I fitted the gun port lids on the starboard side. After I sliced off the thread at the bottom side of the open lids I touched up with red ochre paint to disguise the end of the thread. Issue 83 started: - Acetate window sheets cut to size and fixed with clear glue. - Started to fit the frames at the bottom/top of the windows. - I used tiny blobs of blue tak to fit few balusters temporarily to get the next strips at the correct position - Mizzen chainwales sanded to match the curve of the hull - They painted and dressed with eyebolts and rigging blocks - Deadeyes wired, then sprayed with primer and black. As with my other chainwales I deviate from the magazine which leaves the deadeyes natural. On the real ship they are also black. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! The deadeyes look very tidy - amazing that you achieved this with the provided wire and obviously without annealing it!Greetings, Walter

DaDokta wrote:The deadeyes look very tidy - amazing that you achieved this with the provided wire and obviously without annealing it! Hi Walter, Yes, it was quite tricky, the wire snaps very easily but I figured out a technique which minimises the risk. Firts I used a 3mm dowel to wrap it around (not full circle but approx. 300 degrees), instead of using the actual deadeye. With this a smaller diameter circle achieveable and makes the next step (twisting) less stressful. Then I pushed the deadeye into the circle, the springness of the wire allows it. The wires were approx 60-90 degrees angle to each other after the deadeye popped in. Then the trick... I haven’t twisted the wires evenly... With a flat plier I twisted/wrapped the short wire approx 180 degrees around the long end just enough to provide a little tension around the deadeye to keep the wire tight. With this the long wire (goes around desdeye) doesn’t have stress and won’t snap. After this I used a small flat nose plier to keep wrapping the short end around the long one to complete the full circle ffom 180 to 360 degrees. Then I cut off the excess of the short end. Then I used the method suggested in the magazine to make the 180 turn at the bottom. Finally with a flat plier I held the two parallel wires from approx 2-2.5 mm from the bottom of the deadeye and wrapped the wire around with two circles. Excess cut off and job done. Hopefully you understand my description, if you wish I can post some picture/sketches from the process Happy building! Laszlo Finished builds: HMS Victory, HMS Victory Cross-Section

Hello All, Thanks for the good comments. Issue 83 continued: - Painted deadeyes fitted to the chainwales and the slots covered with strips - Inner window frames cut to size and painted black, yellow ochre and fitted to place - Side frames added to the window section I did not feel comfortable with the magazine instructions regarding how to make the yellow stripes on the small window frames. I believe it would be too difficult to fit painted masking tapes once the frames are in place (Issue 90). I also found my masking tape too thick, would stand out too much from the surface. Hence I made the stripes on an alternative way. First I fixed usual double sided tape to a block of of wood, then stuck 18mm wide modelling masking tape sticky side up. Then added the small frames and painted black. Once the paint dried I stuck same thick (1mm) leftover strips next to them, ensuring they are really tucked next to each other to prevent bleeding onto the sides. Then fitted 2mm/1mm wide masking tape to the centre of the frames. Finally they painted yellow ochre. It required 3-4 thin coat because it didn't cover the black very well. After all paint dried they fitted to the gallery. There we few bleedings to the side which corrected after glueing in place. I'm very pleased with the results, some yellow correction still require due to some shaky hands when corrected with black. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Thanks for the positive comments, they mean a lot for a beginner from all the experts. Issue 83 continued: - The frames around the windows painted. This job is definitely not for someone with shaky hands. Another coat still needed to make it a more uniform colour and cover the black better. - Started to bend the frames for the side windows. Seeing the difficulty to paint the strips yellow after fitted, I'll try a different strategy. I painted the side yellow which will be "away" from the hull. With this I think it will be a nicer, more even finish, don't need to worry to cover the black and shaky hands not that much of a problem as the correction is easier prior glueing in place. Once the yellow dried I'll paint the upper & lower sides black and then glue them to place. - Done the same thing with the 1x3mm strip below the gallery. It was very tricky to bend this strip "across" the width of the strip to make the desired curve but managed to do it. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building!
