Hello, I am the USA forum support team member here. If you can let me know which screws you are having problems with and which pack they came from, I will try to help. You may also want to take a look at the official build, as this may give you some guidance.

I think the biggest screw problem is not always knowing which screws to use. They are all just labeled fixing screws. Some issues will say which size screws to use but not all. Unlike the falcon build which only used 3-4 distinct screws, R2D2 uses many different but similar screws. Very confusing.

The screws that come with the build are generally packed in the same issue as the parts come in. The official build here, tends to give the size of the screws needed for each stage. Regards Mark Regards Markwarren (Mark) Admin

The problem is that screws are packed with certain issues, and not used for those issues. Sometimes it might be 3 or 4 issues later. You could take a page from eaglemoss on their BTTF delorean build where they label their screws in individual bags and only pack the screws needed for that issue. The r2d2 build just puts alot of different screws in the same bag, and can be quite confusing when trying to find the correct one. I know I'm not the only one complaining about this because I see it on youtube all the time with other people doing this build. It can't be that difficult to put the screws needed for the current issue in individual bags and put a small sticker on the outside or a small piece of paper in the bag with a code or screw type on it. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now..

If you need further clarity, simply refer to the R2-D2 official build, where we have clarified the screw types

Speaking of the Official Build Pages - did your web admins ever get back to you on the 'images not loading' problem??
I've always had the problem & have tried Safari, Firefox, Chrome on 2 different computers - only 20% of the images ever load at once, this stops me from ever using the official builds as instructions.

We are working on it, it’s extremely complex and deep routed that came about as result of the server move. That said, page refresh a few times generally brings up the images, far from ideal but it generally works.

I've got to agree with Darth. It would go a long way to include a legend with each issue, with colored actual size screw/bolt/nut images - labelled with what they're consistently referred to as in the text. On my side of the ocean, a '2.5 x 6mm fixing screw' doesn't bring to mind any tangible, physical size or object - could be 1/2 of an inch long, maybe 1/4 of an inch, might be a screw, might be a bolt, maybe something in between. Most of my assembly has been a process of trial and error to find the right 'fixing screw' - hoping that I haven't chosen one that will split the plastic or poke through the other side. Current Builds: R2D2, Millenium Falcon

I know there maybe a difference with measurement, however, the last number of the screw size stated on the official build is the screw length. The conversion for anyone having trouble is “size mm x 0.04” so a 6mm length screw would be 0.24, which is a ¼ inch. I hope that helps where necessary. Mark Regards Markwarren (Mark) Admin

Building: Ghostbusters Ecto-1, Ford GT40, Gone in 60 seconds Eleanor mustang, Shelby Cobra Complete: R2D2, Red Bull RB7 RC, Battleship Bismarck, Shelby GT500 'super snake'

I've subscribed to the R2D2 kit for my daughter and I to build together: we're planning on waiting until it's complete (we have about 9 months to go, I reckon) before starting, so I've been collecting the official build diary off-line to preserve until we need it: mainly because of the image load issue, but also because I wanted to be sure it didn't go away just when I needed it :-) As a result of that, every time a new issue is published in the diary, I download the web page and keep reloading until I can capture all the images, and then I alter the web page to point to the images on my hard drive, rather than online, so I can be sure all the images will load. I keep the collection up-to-date with new issues, and if anyone else wants to download the 79.9MB zip file, it's here: IanW's Collection of R2-D2 Official Build Diary Posts (up to Issue 90)If you do get it, it unzips into multiple directories, each one being one of the published posts; inside that directory is an index.html file. Open that index.html file in your web browser, and you should see the whole post with all images. Really, I should do more work to strip out the unnecessary parts of the page like all the links at the top, but they don't add much to the file and this way is at least quick and easy, so I've left it. Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems. Ian

Going back to the screw issue. In issue 78 when attaching the cover connectors, the magazine requires you to use the Flanged 2.3x6mm screws. But for the previous cover connectors it requests regular 2.3x6mm self tapping screws. I am now worried I’ve used the wrong screws!! Should I change the earlier build screws to the flanged version or will that weaken the structure if I remove the screws & change them??
