Hello all together,
I'm from Germany and we don't have a forum on the Victory on model-space and since this one seems to be visited quite frequently I'll try my luck with this forum.
I didn't start yet since there are some open questions, maybe some of you can help out:
a) I would want to go with the 12 month plan, since there are 120 packages I suppose I will get 10 every month the first for 10 and the others for 60 making it 670 in total? Or do the deliveries vary in the amount of packages?
b) There are no magazines with the packages?
c) I couldn't find any other total beginner stating how long it took him, I'm calculating about 2 years?
d) I would like to paint the upper half and stain the lower part really dark but want to see the structure of the wood. So I suppose I cannot use nails for planking and have to buy some clamps? Or can the holes of the nails be filled with wood filler? Or do you just leave them to see?
e) I've watched about half of the official building videos, he doesn't paint anything till then, wouldn't it be a good idea to paint the cannons and small parts (stairs and mast etc.) before I fix them to the boat? Maybe I missed it, but is there some hint to that issue in the instruction?
f) Are the colors included in the delivery?
g)If I screw up, can I reorder single issues?
h) What tools are included and what would you recommend to buy to make the build as comfortable as possible for a beginner?
Many thanks in advance!
Daniel

Hi there, im not an experienced builder so i cant advise you on those points, but i also signed up for the 12 month subscription, you dont get the original magazines but you do get a booklet that takes through all the steps required for the month, as for paints i bought mine from model space as the price is very good, i dont think they are supplied and i would suggest you get these as you will need them in your first month of building. As for tools i bought every tool i could think of from small drill bits, mini files of different shapes sanding blocks, sponge sanding blocks, twist drills, archimedes drill, rulers, clamps, knives.electric plank bender. i dont think tools come with the subscription. Good luck and im sure someone alot more experienced than me will help you soon. All the best

Daniel First of all Daniel, I'd like to welcome you to our forum and hope you enjoy your time with us. That is quite a list of questions you've posted so best way for me to tackle them is from the top. a) You would receive one pack per month containing 10 stages in each pack, 120 build stages in total. b) Correct, there are no magazines within each pack. You can also download the build instructions from the Victory website by clicking on the 'Der Bau' tab on the following link... https://www.model-space....hms-nelson-victory.html
c) Every builder is different, some have taken just over a year whilst others are still building after a couple of years. The length of time it will take depends on how much time you are able to spend working on the model in a given period. What I would say to all beginners is that it is not a race to finish but a journey to be enjoyed. d) This one is down to personal taste in whether you wish to see pin holes on your build or not. You can fill the holes with filler but not all wood fillers accept stain in the same way. Would suggest you try staining some test strips with pin holes filled and see how it looks from there. There are of course other ways you can hold planks in position and a look at this link may help you decide the best way forward for you.... https://forum.model-spac...amp;m=269869#post269869
You may also like to consider tiling the hull of your build.... https://www.model-space....e-pack-hms-victory.html
e) The instructions give clear guidance on what to paint, colour to use and when to paint... f) A full colour paint set is available... https://www.model-space....nt-set-hms-victory.html
g) Should you require replacement issues then you need to contact customer services, they should be able to assist. h) As for tools, you should find this link useful. It highlights the basic tools you should consider.... https://forum.model-spac...spx?g=posts&t=25351
Hope you find the answers above useful. Should you require further assistance then do not hesitate to ask.... Regards Alan

Great to hear you've decided to go with the Victory, hope you will consider posting up a build diary for us to follow your progress. This would also help the more experienced modellers on the forum render assistance to you should you need it. Good luck with the build and look forward to seeing how you get on..... Regards Alan

Hi Daniel, Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your build. Most of your questions have been answered, but regarding the time - I took 485 hours to build mine bearing in mind that I stained all my timber, rather than painting it. I would guess, if you build it straight out of the box, it will take around 500 hours. Don't be put off though - it's an amazing journey and I enjoyed every (well almost every) minute. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.
