PACK 9
This pack of parts deals predominantly with the front of the car. To begin, the fuel tank is fitted. The rubber grommet around the sender unit on top of the tank can be highlighted using a fine black marker pen. Also, Googling for reference pictures shows that many 911’s had silver or black fuel tanks so you could repaint the tank if you wish.
The brake fluid reservoir can be detailed by adding two pipes to the bottom. These can be attached either by just gluing the pipes up inside the cavity underneath, or as was done here, the cavity was filled with resin. As the resin begins to set, two pieces of wire are set into it. The hoses can then be glued onto the wires. Hose clips can be made using self-adhesive aluminium tape strips. The fixing band was also foiled silver after removing the noticeable mould seam and sprue pip.
The fixing screws are also painted silver in this case. The batteries are assembled next but due to the way box shapes are injection moulded, the sides of the battery have a rather prominent slope to them. This can be alleviated somewhat by filing the sides of the battery into a more regular box shape. The lower flange can also be added at the sides, using small pieces of plastic strip. If you wish, battery decals can be added to detail them a little more. The decals can be found on Ebay.
Drill small holes in the battery terminals so that the leads can be added. Fix the batteries into the car.
A length of wiring loom can be made using a piece of thicker red wire for the battery, and a few thin wires to lead to the front of the car. Bind the wires as shown in the picture using surgical tape blackened with a marker pen.
The wiring can be attached to the bodywork using small dots of cyano glue. Feed the rear of the cable through the opening at the back of the bay as shown in the picture and cut off any excess. The front thinner wires can be wrapped around the front of the body panel and held in place with tape.
The other battery and wires are attaches as shown in the pictures. The two front wings of the model are assembled as per the instructions. However, you can cut down the height of the black aerial grommet so that the silver aerial part sits much closer to the body.
