Thanks guys,

just a little update of my very slow progress.
I began to prepare the gun-port lids for the upper decks.

And more important i began with the preparation of the main and mizzen chainwales.

As with the fore chainwales i made my own custom main chainwales with the measurements of the original plans. In the pic you can see a comparison between my own chainwale and the povided one.

For the mizzen chainwales i used the provided ones as the original measurements didn`t fit at all to our model.

As fast as the real work was actually done - i needed hours to decide how to proceed with the chainwales and where exactly to attach them to the hull - so that no guns are covered by either the shrouds or the chains!!

Hi Walter,
Good luck with your chainwails. Its worth studying them carefully and double checking everything before attaching them. Its easy to fit them to the wrong sides.
Kind regards,
Garth

Hi guys,

it`s been a while but this will be a major update as i completed all the chainwales, attached all the chains and the gunport lids of the upper decks.

The fore- and main chainwales are custom-made, for the mizzen i used the ones provided (a little bit modified).

I used black annealed steel wire for the deadeyes and the chains.

So here are some (actually a lot of) pics!

So all that´s left to do at the hull are the boomkins, the figurehead, the lanterns and the gunport lids of the lower decks.

So one (or some) question to all the experts:

I guess i should wait with the boomkins until the bowsprit is attached?

Also the lanterns are endangered when rigging the sails - so i guess they maybe should be attached at the end of the build?

What about the figurehead? Should i also wait until the bowsprit is done?

And finally the gunport lids. Can i attach them now along with the cannons(as i want that job out of my way). Or should i wait till after the rigging?

I´m asking as i have that weird notion to complete as much as possible before starting with the masts.

Thanks for helping!
Greetings,
Walter

Hi Walter,

She looks awesome!!!

Couple of questions/requests:
- could you please post a close picture how did you rigged/fixed the two cannons (not the corronades) to the forward quarterdeck?
- could you please post a close picture from the crown fixed to the end if the catheads? How did you made them? Or bought it separately? I can recall that it’s part of the kit.

Thanks
Happy building!
Laszlo

Hi Laszlo,

as to the second questions - the cathead-crowns are one of Mike`s enhancements that could be bought a few years back.

I´m afraid they are no longer available.

Walter

As to the first question:

if you scroll back to page 27 of my diary you can find some pretty close pics of the two forecastle-cannons.

But the way i rigged them is most probably not historical correct, i`m afraid!

Walter

Hi Walter, she's looking fabulous and see you've applied a great deal of care and attention during assembly. As for your questions, everything here is down to your own personal choice of course but

Boomkins, less chance of breakage if you fit the boomkins once the bowsprit is attached.

Lanterns, these didn't cause me any problems at all and I fitted when the instructions says to fit. Same with the figurehead, no problems at all fitting at the point the instructions say to fit.

Gunport lids, very easy to knock off when fitted especially during the rigging process. Personally, I would do this task after rigging is complete.

Look forward to seeing more of your progress, keep the pics coming....

Regards

Alan
