Received my runner up prise from Model Space this week, thank you guys  and thought I would share an unboxing review.
The first thing to point out is this is available as a full kit through Model Space, as one of their smaller offerings it its an ideal first wooden ship kit build for an adult modeller.
inside the box is 4 shrink wrapped packs and a colour instruction book. The instructions are the typical AL offering which means they are comprehensive with cross reference to the parts list and very simple to follow.
The first pack out of the box is the bundle of wood strip and dowel. there is a surprising amount for a small kit which indicates the amount of detail in the build. this kit is also double planked which helps give a really nice finish in dark woods that look good under varnish.
The next pack contains the laser cut ply parts, much of this is for the hull framing. The pack also has a nice display base.
The third pack is the typical AL components tray rammed full of metal and wood parts that will build the detail of the finished model. the cast metal looks good as do the turned wood parts rigging blocks etc. These component trays are great to keep for storing spares after the build
The final pack contains the three pre sticked sails. The quality of the stitching is good and once tun over with an iron should look fantastic. there is also a silk flag which I think is self adhesive.
All in All this looks like a kit that will build up quite nicely and fairly easily, a good start kit for modellers with experience that want to dip their toe into the world of period wooden ship building.
Most experienced modellers will have the tools required to build this, pin vice drill, tweezers, a steel rule, craft knife, assorted abrasives, scissors and wood glue and CA glue are all that is required for this build.
The more experienced modeller may want to change out one or two of the ply parts for solid wood parts if not painting the kit as the ply lamination can be seen on the finished kit in some places. There is an opportunity to add the sail ties to the sail.
Pros - Good quality materials, good clear instructions, simple build, detailed finished model, display stand included, small footprint.
