Hello All, thanks for the good words. Issue 88 continued: - bowsprit completed with brackets, bees and bindings. Issue 89 started: - jibboom and flying jibbom made - jack staff and dolphin striker tapered with my pillar drill - all parts painted - bowsprit fully assembled and dressed with bindings and rigging blocks - finally test fitted before put aside until gets fitted Good news, the primer and black sprays arrived so I can carry on with the chainwale supports. I also ordered black brass wire (expecting to arrive on Tuesday), so I don't need to paint the provided brass wires for the wale loops. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hi All, Issue 87 continued/finished as the primer and black spray arrived: - remaining wale supports shaped to fit - the support together with 58 straps hung up and sprayed with primer and black - once paint dried wale supports fitted, nail heads touched up with black paint Issue 88 continued: - 0.5mm black copper wire arrived - wire winded up and cut to small and larger loops - first 8 small links fitted. Oh dear... it's a nerve wracking task... tiny, flimsy parts, hard to hold in place gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hello Everyone, Thanks for the good comments, much appreciated. Issue 89 continued: - carronades fully assembled and rigged - they fitted to the quarterdeck - die-cast stern decorations sprayed with primer - first coat of yellow and white applied Issue 90 started: - pin rails cut to size and marked Side project - Cabinet for the ship:Once the ship is completed I'm planning to display it in a cabinet made by myself. As the ship is quite big I couldn't find a suitable free space for it. But I realised that the corner above the staircase is used for nothing, and it's big enough to accommodate the cabinet. Then I was thinking how to fix it to the corner. I didn't like the idea to fit it with the long side to the "long wall" because it would be quite far from the viewer, hence what's the point... I also found unsuitable to fit the short side of the cabinet to the "short wall" because of the length of the cabinet it would require a hell of console. Another concern is the total weight of the cabinet. As I calculated with 5mm acrylic or 3mm glass side panels, plus the wooden base board + the ship, the total weight will be around 40 kgs. So a console is a definite no go. The only option left to hang it from the loft through the ceiling. Then the next problem I had to think A) how actually hang/lift up and B) how to clean the cabinet occasionally. The problem is because the awkward position and the risk that I will fall off downstairs. Hence the idea came that I should make a pulley/lift mechanism to able to lift up on the very first time, and lower it down for cleaning. So, I sat front of a CAD modelling software for a few weeks designing the system. I think I'm getting close to the final version: - 5 mm white nylon rope on the four corners - four roller drum to wind up the rope - a slider for each drum to guide the rope while winding up to get a nice even winding otherwise the cabinet will go out from level if one or more rope winded on multiple layers - couple of gears to transmit the rotation from the drum shaft to the threaded rod of the sliders - a worm gear between the drum shaft and the motor. This makes able to omit any brakes on the system because only the worm is able to drive the worm wheel, the worm wheel locks on the worm if the motor is off. I still need to make some calculation what kind of motor I could use which is strong enough to provide the required torque. One idea is a car windscreen wiper motor, which is a worm drive anyway, so it could be directly connected to the drum shaft. That's where I'm at at the moment, still got some time to finalise the design until the ship gets completed. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Looks good and nice idea for the placement of the finished model have you thought about using a mini winch for an off roader Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Very interesting idea for displaying the finished build, hope it all works out as planned. You have the same stairwell layout as I have so will be watching to see how it all works out for you..... Very nice work as usual.... Regards Alan

Thanks for the comments and the hint about a winch, I'll have a look for the available options. From now onwards I'll be a little "jumpy" regarding the issues, I'll complete all the hull decorations, fittings and once all complete then will start do all the riggings. Issue 89 completed: - second coat of yellow applied to stern decorations - after paint dried they fitted into position. I was a bit unlucky, during the removal from the masking tape one of the top curly part snapped. Luckily "cut" was quite clear and managed to fit them separately to the stern and covered the cut with a touch of yellow paint, now it can't be noticed. Issue 90 continued: - pinrail posts carved and painted - pinrails and garlands drilled and painted black - after they dried all fitted to their places - staghorns made and painted - second and third coat of white applied to the trophy of arms, then black applied where required - then I realized that I have no bright red paint (only red ochre) so I had to pause the painting of it here. on Monday I'll go to a modelling shop end get one. Issue 91 started: - bowsprit spars and boomkins made - bindings and footrope supports added, then all painted black Issue 92 started: - cannon balls fixed to the garlands with clear glue - staghorns fixed to place - belaying pins hanged and sprayed primer and black. Earlier when I hanged them I tied each of them with a double knot just below the little shoulder. But because this time there were lot more of them (58 pcs), I used another method. For better visibility I used one white and one black normal sawing thread. Tied one end together and using a battery DIY screwdriver the two thread were twisted tight. The I just pushed the pins between the two threads. It was much quicker to fit and easier to remove after the paint dried. Also because I hanged them below the little shoulder the unpainted area won't be visible after then fixed into the rails. - after paint dried, pins pushed into location. I didn't use glue in case they need to be removed during the rigging, they were just about tight enough anyway (I drilled 1.4 mm holes for them) gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building!
